After being continuously exposed to them on Nijiura, I felt I finally had to make the effort to translate some of bkub's somewhat incomprehensible comics. They're all from http://blog.livedoor.jp/bkub/. They're also not exactly easy to get, and I'm limiting myself to translating the ones I actually understand. However, if you do get them, they're pretty hilarious.First off, a Lucky Star strip featuring Tsukasa's catchphrase "dondake~". I'm using the translation Strato used in the a.f.k. subs for this.

Next, another Lucky Star strip. This one's a real repost classic. For those who don't know, a Guntank is a machine from the original Gundam. It's supposed to look something like this: http://images.google.com/images?q=guntankA wise man once said that a good comic does not have just one joke in the last panel, it has a joke in every panel. This comic lives up to that ideal pretty well.

Next, a Rozen comic. It is no secret that I am a sucker for Suigintou.
Finally, another Rozen comic, celebrating the restart of the manga!I might do some more of these given some spare time and the ability to actually comprehend some more strips. I'm sort of itching to do his original manga 3LDKM (http://comoco8109.web.fc2.com/3ldkm1.html), but I'd really need some more time before I can do that. But feel free to make requests!

Also, >>3788 is popular enough to make people do things like this.

Now, I never really got into the whole Touhou thing, so usually I don't do those comics, but I finally had to admit I just love bkub's depictions of the Touhou girls too much to leave these strips alone.
Seems bkub's suffering from asthma, too.
Maybe one of you Touhou people out there can tell me why Chen's using the Chinese reading of her name and not the Japanese?Or is just one of ZUN's mysteries?

lol, GJ!
More Touhou silliness.Stay tuned for 3LDKM! Maybe.

Hahah, thanks a bunch for these. I love the surreal humor, and the meta-edits just make it more absurd. There's wikis in both English and Japanese for Touhou if you're ever curious about character details, but I leave that up to you. Also, honk honk.

3LDKM is done and posted in its own thread!http://iitran.secchan.net/img/res/3840.html
The Touhou madness continues.Man, that frog does look super tough.

>>3810Chen's name uses the chinese reading because it means "bitter orange." It's a very loose pun, since all of the Yakumo family's names can be read as colors of visible light.(Yukari=Violet, Ran=Indigo, Chen=Orange) It's also sort of like a hierarchy.
>>3865Well, yes, but that doesn't actually explain why her name is read in Chinese.

Good Marisa, you look kind of cool.
Aburaage is fried tofu. If you've had kitsune udon or inarizushi, you know the stuff.
After >>3869, bkub vowed to draw a cute Marisa. The resulting strip was so cute, he had to turn his blog pink and add a bunch of sparkling hearts.(No, really: http://blog.livedoor.jp/bkub/archives/51201067.html)

Zawa... Zawa...
>>3876 Not to be a stickler for details, but that's only two pair, not a full house! In my card game, you could get shot for that!
>>3882 This is Cirno we're talking about. For all we know, she thought that 9 was a 6.
It's time for Chen's Maritime Adventures!
A two-parter, even!
>>3882 I think that's part of the joke. Cirno's an idiot, ZUN said it himself (the ⑨ you see accociated with her is because she was pointed out in a instruction manual picture as "baka" with it)see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXCZ90Xk9bo
>>3900 Good Point! Now that comic has more Funny than ever before.
>>3810>>3865>>3866ZUN likes to include characters from various locations/cultures (scarlet sisters from France, Alice from Romania, etc). Chen seems to be Chinese in origin, from details like her name and theme song (named "Diao ye zong"). Her dress also seems to have a very Chinese feel to it.

those comis are SOOOOOOOOO fucking retard
Heh, good to see this thread on the front page. I'd feel bad about bumping it if it'd fallen back a few.Has he drawn any more Touhou comics? I don't speak a word of Japanese, and searching his blog through trial-and-error doesn't work real well on 28.8k dialup. I'd love to see more of these translated, if there are any more and you have the patience for it.

Well, I stopped translating these for a while because bkub decided to start experimenting with drawing strips with plain old pen and paper, and also went completely out of his mind at the same time, making the strips even less comprehensible than usual. But he's back in shape again now, so I decided to clear out as much of the backlog as I could. So here we go, with a strip about the fearsome youkai Chen!

ZUN ZUN ZUNCHA!
bkub suggests, as an explanation, that they probably got the wrong person.
I think this is the point where bkub gets back to normal levels of dementia. This is pretty straightforward! As a note, I usually try to translate all sound effects, but in this case "ZUN" seemed like it should be left alone.

Nobody's going to get this. It's all about that famous TV show, "The Fountain of Trivia". See, they present bits of trivia and then the guests press the button if they didn't know it and... Ah, just go read the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey!_Spring_of_Trivia

Ran averts disaster at the last second. And that's the lot for today. I actually skipped one, because it's some kind of horrible, horrible pun that I don't understand, and probably couldn't translate even if I did. Don't wait up for that one.

New strips! Rin makes her first appearance!
Some days translating sure is an easy job.
But enough with the distractions, let's get back to what's important, namely, Chen.I really should not laugh as much as I do at this one.

It seems Mandarake has opened an international online store now. And they have nearly all of bkub's books in stock:http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/search.do?searchStrategy=keyword&action=keyword&doujin=all&keyword=bkubThey're cheap, too! Especially if you request the slower and cheaper SAL shipping instead of the default EMS.

New strips have appeared, so it's time to catch up! First an old one that I never got around to doing."Wi" is an old character that is read as "i" these days and oh who the hell am I kidding, knowing that is not going to make the comic make any more sense.
