Has anyone undertaken the translation of this yet?http://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/hetaria/index.htmFrom what I can see it pretty much concerns a rather mangled portrayal of WWII, due largely to the fact that each country is represented as a different guy. It has both one-offs and a cohesive storyline, both of which are kind of impossible to follow when you don't speak Japanese. It seems to also have some boylove themes, but I can't tell for sure if they're supposed to be canon because MOONSPEAK EVERYWHERE.Anyway, I don't know if anyone would actually want to bother translating this, but you might as well give it a look. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than I made it out to be.

seems pretty good so far, but I don't speak japanese either, so...
I wouldn't mind seeing this translated, either. The concept reminds me a bit of the Afughanis-tan comics, and the art is pretty good, at least for a webcomic. That, and I like how my own country, Sweden-kun, is massproducing surströmming to use as a weapon of mass destruction. Militaric neutrality my ass.

>>3589>massproducing surströmmingDose that taste good? Can you actually eat that without cooking or you have to cook it? (pic is from http://web1.nazca.co.jp/miso106/hokuouunion/hokuouunion.htmlIt's a fun-union for your country (and some other countries next to yours.)

>>3576>>3625 I do wanna see the translations for the comics and the game. But I guess it's really difficult.1) You have to know history terminologies both in Japanese and English.2) There is no storyline for this manga. It's more like a collection of historic event manga. I understand Japanese but my English proficiency isn't that good. Well, someone might correct my English...but...I don't really have any energy to look up all those historic terminologies. (T-T)

>>3628 Here you go.Wow...it's so late...I gotta sleep. The concept of Hetalia is like...there is no such thing like..."evil countries"..wars happen because of countries' politicians(= described as boss) and the countries themselves have no choice but to follow the bosses. But the people who live in each countries are usually good (represented as countries.) They do have bad points, but that is not all. They fight each others (wars) or "dislike" other countries but such attitude is usually Tsundere(=a Japanese character archetype describing an initially combative personality, which eventually becomes loving and emotionally vulnerable, normally found in Japanese anime and manga.) Because it's about history, there are anti-Hetalia people.. But I do like this manga.

Oh wow, thank you so much! I thought there'd never be any interest in this, or that people would be put off by the knowledge of historical terminology required to translate it, at the very least. Would you mind if some requests were posted? I'll happily edit the dialog into the images if more people show interest.>>3629That's kind of the impression I got. Glad to see I was right about something. It'll be interesting to see how things actually play out in the comics, since I've just been guessing thus far.

>>3629You can use http://wakaba.c3.cx/notes/notes.pl to put notes with translations on pictures. Others can edit and fix things, too.

Should we translate the top page of official site too?

>>3632Oh wow, that's really interesting. Convenient as hell, too.I'll try to fix up some of the translations posted here as best I can, but I'm worried that I'll end up straying too far from the original meaning, as I don't speak Japanese. I'm also not quite sure where to start with some of these, so I suppose I'll just leave them be.

>>3624 Surströmming is eaten as it is when you open the can, but usually with hard bread (knäckebröd) and lots of vodka, so that you won't notice the smell as much. But take my advice and stay as far away from it as possible. Surströmming is literary rotten fish that's crawling with bacteria, and it's just as nasty as it sounds like. And if you don't open the can before it's too old, it explodes due to the gases produced by the decaying fish. Delicious!
