Is there anyway that somebody'll translate maritan?

>> No.3583

That'd be impossible.

>> No.3657

Maritan is really easy to understand/translate. You could do it yourself even if you have only very minor knowledge of Japanese. Most of the text at least contains English words, if it isn't completely English. What Japanese there is, is simple. This is supposed to be a "schoolbook" for learning to speak English....with quotes from Full Metal Jacket. Get yourself a Japanese-English dictionary and maybe a simple Kanji dictionary and you'll be reading it in no time. Plus, you'll learn some Japanese, and if you're in this hobby that's a damn good thing.

yeah, the reason it was Japanese was the funny part

Has anyone undertaken the translation of this yet?

http://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/hetaria/index.htm

From what I can see it pretty much concerns a rather mangled portrayal of WWII, due largely to the fact that each country is represented as a different guy. It has both one-offs and a cohesive storyline, both of which are kind of impossible to follow when you don't speak Japanese. It seems to also have some boylove themes, but I can't tell for sure if they're supposed to be canon because MOONSPEAK EVERYWHERE.

Anyway, I don't know if anyone would actually want to bother translating this, but you might as well give it a look. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than I made it out to be.

Wow...it's so late...I gotta sleep.

The concept of Hetalia is like...there is no such thing like..."evil countries"..wars happen because of countries' politicians(= described as boss) and the countries themselves have no choice but to follow the bosses.
But the people who live in each countries are usually good (represented as countries.) They do have bad points, but that is not all. They fight each others (wars) or "dislike" other countries but such attitude is usually Tsundere(=a Japanese character archetype describing an initially combative personality, which eventually becomes loving and emotionally vulnerable, normally found in Japanese anime and manga.)

Because it's about history, there are anti-Hetalia people.. But I do like this manga.

Oh wow, thank you so much! I thought there'd never be any interest in this, or that people would be put off by the knowledge of historical terminology required to translate it, at the very least. I'll try to fix up some of the translations posted here as best I can, but I'm worried that I'll end up straying too far from the original meaning, as I don't speak Japanese. I'm also not quite sure where to start with some of these, so I suppose I'll just leave them be.

Surströmming is eaten as it is when you open the can, but usually with hard bread (knäckebröd) and lots of vodka, so that you won't notice the smell as much.

But take my advice and stay as far away from it as possible. Surströmming is literary rotten fish that's crawling with bacteria, and it's just as nasty as it sounds like.

And if you don't open the can before it's too old, it explodes due to the gases produced by the decaying fish. Delicious!

>> No.1771

All right... let me rephrase that... in a "real" encyclopedia made of dead trees.

>> No.1777

The thing I don't get about moe, is that it's not supposed to be an overtly sexual thing; it's a warm, tender feeling, with a subtle sexual undercurrent. I've read that more than once, but it seems that often enough, creators of moe characters go to great lenghts to sexualize them. PetoPeto-san is the most obvious example, the characters are really cute, and I definitely see how one could feel moe for many of them, but then, they are sexualized so much that it makes me feel dirty.

Petopeto's artist YUG has another manga called HemoHemo that features a very moe 14-year-old girl. I immediately see why she is moe. Undoubtedly, Japanese otaku in their 20's who would be reading this manga see her as a little sister. Hemohemo is completely devoid of any sexual images, the only instance of nudity is a bathing scene that's as innocent as the bathing scene in Totoro, yet watching your adolescent little sister taking a bath is sexual. I understand how something like that can fall under the moe umbrella, but not "oops I glomped your developing chest" - I expect to see that in something like Mai Hime or a harem anime.

>> No.1778
>PetoPeto-san is the most obvious example, the characters are really cute, and I definitely see how one could feel moe for many of them, but then, they are sexualized so much that it makes me feel dirty.

Also, 'peto' is Finnish for 'beast'. ^_^

How do you claim with such certainty what moe is and isn't supposed to be?

For instance, your example Mai-HiME makes a big deal out of being a moe show.

>> No.1780

>>1779

I don't claim to do anything. I only know what I read, and I've pointed out that I've read more than once that moe isn't a sexual thing.

I don't see how Mai Hime is a moe show really. If Mai Hime is moe, than just about anything is moe.

>> No.1781

Did you read it anywhere other than Akamatsu's original blog entry, and the people commenting on that? Because that's the only place I've really seen this claim made. And it definitely shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Well, you may be a hardcore Emma fan, but probably not fan enough to take the tube over to Oxford Circus station, take a leisurely walk up Regent Street, and take a right at New Cavendish, and take pictures wantonly. Well, I found it. I found Emma's house. It wasn't on Marylebone Street like how everyone says, but it's actually on New Cavendish itself. I did take a picture of a couple of places on Marylebone, but they didn't have the same facade as in the anime. I thought the ones from Marylebone were it, but upon inspection, this one looked the most like Emma's house. Too bad I didn't realize it and took more pictures of it.
