I remeber seeing these pages on guro chan I think, I believe this limbless girl was only a minor side character in a manga, and these pages were something of a omake. So these might be the only pages with her. I how ever do not remeber the name of the manga...

Originally, Backbeard was the nickname used by a notorious critic of lolicons, who's name was derived from a monster in European mythology (the giant eyeball thingy).

Not surpisingly, they made a meme out of it, as well as a -tan mascot, Beako, who is supposedly Backbeard's daughter, and frequently voices the tagline "You Damn Lolicon!"

These days, that "High Street" is Marylebone High Street, while the perpendicular Marylebone Street is now just New Cavendish Street. However, there's also a Marylebone Lane and Marylebone Mews.

Yes, but at the time of Emma, New Cavendish street was just the short bit between Upper Marylebone Street (UMS) and Greater Marylebone Street (GMS).

In other news, has anyone noticed that the estate of the Jounes' has moved from being a large palatial house, obviously located inside London's boroughs, to a more country-estate type of place?

Obviously, the animation crew felt they wanted to emphasise the wealth of the Jounes family.

BTW, can anyone recognise the Jounes estate in the anime? I've been browsing pics of stately homes for the past couple of days, and I haven't found one that looks just like that - though several have come close. I suspect that it's an amalgam of several.

Here's an actual photograph of Regent Street (the long, curved street on which part Hakim's and William's elephantback excursion took place). The picture is from the late 19th century, and is therefore from Emma's time.

Note the extreme similarities between this picture and the anime's rendition - the animators have seen this exact picture, I guarantee it.

That'd be impossible.

Maritan is really easy to understand/translate. You could do it yourself even if you have only very minor knowledge of Japanese. Most of the text at least contains English words, if it isn't completely English. What Japanese there is, is simple. This is supposed to be a "schoolbook" for learning to speak English....with quotes from Full Metal Jacket. Get yourself a Japanese-English dictionary and maybe a simple Kanji dictionary and you'll be reading it in no time. Plus, you'll learn some Japanese, and if you're in this hobby that's a damn good thing.

The concept of Hetalia is like...there is no such thing like..."evil countries"..wars happen because of countries' politicians(= described as boss) and the countries themselves have no choice but to follow the bosses.
But the people who live in each countries are usually good (represented as countries.) They do have bad points, but that is not all. They fight each others (wars) or "dislike" other countries but such attitude is usually Tsundere(=a Japanese character archetype describing an initially combative personality, which eventually becomes loving and emotionally vulnerable, normally found in Japanese anime and manga.)

Because it's about history, there are anti-Hetalia people.. But I do like this manga.

I'll try to fix up some of the translations posted here as best I can, but I'm worried that I'll end up straying too far from the original meaning, as I don't speak Japanese. I'm also not quite sure where to start with some of these, so I suppose I'll just leave them be.

Surströmming is eaten as it is when you open the can, but usually with hard bread (knäckebröd) and lots of vodka, so that you won't notice the smell as much.

But take my advice and stay as far away from it as possible. Surströmming is literary rotten fish that's crawling with bacteria, and it's just as nasty as it sounds like.

And if you don't open the can before it's too old, it explodes due to the gases produced by the decaying fish. Delicious!
