Here's what I THINK is going on, not entirely sure. It's all complete speculation.
Girl A (I can't figure out her name) likes Kenta, and ran after him when he impulsively left with the telescope, but was embarrassed when their classmates teased them with the chalk drawing. She composed a text message suggesting a date, but chickened out and didn't send it.
But Erina also liked Kenta, and asked Girl A to deliver a note to him. Because Erina had that courage that girl A didn't, Erina and Kenta began dating. Erina would send text messages to girl A about their dates, not realizing how girl A felt about him.
She felt angry that her popsicle stick said "winner," which was so ironic while watching the two of them together, throwing the stick down in disgust.
She didn't have the courage to sign up to go to the "Let's Go See the Summer Triangle!" festival that Kenta organized. She saw Erina had already signed up (with a little heart next to her name), and fantasizing about how she would feel seeing Kenta and Erina there together, she once again chickened out.
Kenta also seemed cold towards her, possibly trying not to get too involved because of his impending move to Tokyo, but finally at the end of the school year he did at least give her his address on the popsicle stick that he picked up after she threw it down.
Erina and Kenta said their goodbyes at the station, and none of them ever saw each other again.
The girl never wrote him, but kept the stick as a memento, until years later she revisited the area and finally threw it away.
Thanks for this, I reccon your spot on !
I somehow think Erina has a feeling Girl A has a crush on Kenta. I mean, she had that look when Girl A chased after Kenta, as well as when someone wrote the big scoop thing, and that's probably why she asked to give that letter to Kenta.
My other speculation which might be wrong is that Kenta actually liked Girl A, but with people talking about a big scoop and all that, anyone would be embarrassed to even talk to each other. So when Kenta didn't talk long when Girl A parked her bike, Girl A lost confidence. And eventually, Kenta and Erina spent so much time together, Girl A didn't want to get between them.
And other than my two weird speculations, I believe we have the same perception of the song :D Thanks!
But why does girl A wanna throw away the stick?I mean doesn't she like kenta?I'm confused
Basing it on the story of the Tanabata/The Legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, each character in the music video correspond to a character in the story...
Girl A and Kenta are in love but Erina likes Kenta so she is separating the two. They meet once in a while but because of Erina, Kenta and Girl A cannot be together.
Their meeting once in a while is like in the story that Orihime and Hikoboshi can only meet once a year. They are being separated by Tentei.
Tentei, in the story, is Orihime's father but we should not base it entirely on that story. They just get some ideas of the story for the music video.
...I'm sorry for my English. it's not that good:P
@Watsuri : I think 'Girl A' threw away the stick because she wants to move on. I mean, who in the right mind would want to stay with a guy (or girl) who loves another?
@Amuchi Yes, I think you're right (by the way your English is perfect).
I think the story would be just as Whispers said but at the end they did meet again, however nothing did happen between Kenta and Girl A because Erina was there.
