Right Stuf has announced that they have obtained the license for both seasons of Victorian Romance Emma: http://emma.rightstuf.com/
First up: We're excited to announce the acquisition of VICTORIAN ROMANCE EMMA, as well as its continuation ("Second Act"), which is currently airing on Japanese television.
Right Stuf will release the anime series through its Nozomi Entertainment label as two "season" box sets with Japanese audio and English-language subtitles:
- The initial box set release will contain the 12-episode first season in its entirety; and
- The second box set will include the 12 episodes of the series’ "Second Act," plus "Episode 0: Intermission," a recap/preview that aired prior to the start of the Season 2 telecast.
Additionally, the first 1,000 anime fans to order each box set will be recognized in a "special thanks" section of the DVD credits for that respective set.
So it appears our suspicions that they were waiting for the second season before licensing were correct. Well, as usual, this means torrents will be going down and we hope you will all be ordering your DVDs!
Let's see how many of us we can get into that Special Thanks section!
I'm certainly glad it got licensed, and I'm going to try to get in the special thanks section :3
But I really want to know how this season ends!! Will you guys be posting episode summaries for these last few episodes, like you did for the manga?
Thank you for all your hard work <3
All Emma anime torrents are now deleted. Well, I've been frustrated not to have any time to work on Bangaihen...
Man, that thing is a deal.
Classy. Now I don't feel so bad about the download-hosting machine being taken offline several hours ago by accident. Er... that is to say, It was exactly as I planned!
Oh noes, it was just getting good. I was looking forward to more of whispers notes.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Just a note to those who didn't notice yet: These discs are cheap. $37 for a season. Go! Buy!
They're not dubbed, so they're obviously saving a lot of money on that. Too bad if you like dubbing, but usually people just complain about dubs so none of that here, at least.
I got my name on the DVD! Hah!
This sucks! No dub? And we won't be able to see the ending via fansubs? Who knows when those DVDs will be out, probably next year.
Are you really dropping the project, whispers? Aww maaaannn. :(
To whispers and the entire iitran crew, I and my wife thank you for all your hard work on Emma!
though i'm sad i won't be able to see the last 3 episodes for quite awhile, i thank you for all the work you guys have done.
The official subs will never reach the quality of the fansubs, not to mention the end of episode info slots...its great to see the series get supported but this just sucks.
>>12
You're kidding, aren't you? As Waha says, "usually people just complain about dubs". You're happy with these fansubs, aren't you? Why would you want the dub?
And think about it, if they're not dubbing, it'll be out much sooner. I can't see anything bad about this whole thing as all, so long as the subs are treated with due care.
As a general statement, that is simply not true. Lots of official subs are much better than the available fansubs.
Of course, when it comes to our subs, well, they have their work cut out for them, don't they?
Let's hope the know how to spell "Mölders".
i can't wait for the dvd rips
You people make me sick.
The dub is what you get. Accept it. Don't like it? Learn Japanese. DON'T BITCH ABOUT DUBS. You're too lazy/ignorant/conceited/stupid/whatever to learn Japanese and watch the show in Japanese, so YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO COMPLAIN.
Learn Japanese and Watch Japanese, or STFU.
A huge thank you to you all, our Ultra Director Whispers, Xtian, Waha and FON. (Hope I didn't miss anyone??)
Especially Whispers for all your hard work as well as your English guide and lessons, and Xtian for your excellent translation.
And you Mr. Anonymous Nr. 20. please learn English. Then you'll understand the meaning of "with Japanese audio and English-language subtitles". No dub. Got that?
Release date: Dec. 2012. Time to take those life extension pills, people.
>>22
I meant the delay. People like >>19 who are like "ZOMG NEED FREE FANSUB PLZ" and throw a fit when their show gets licensed... Back in the VHS days, this is what we worked for. Licensing and official distribution is what we wanted. It infuriates me when people shit all over everyone's hard work like that.
All I can say is that I hope Right Stuf casts ACTUAL ENGLISH voice actors for the dub. If I hear American or Canadian accents on these English characters I am going to go ballistic!
>>17
Well, maybe because you only browse through the fansub communities, which tend to have a strong (inexplicable) hate towards dubs and its fans? I'm a big Region 1 buyer (own over 600 DVDs) and have always enjoyed a good dub. I think I wouldn't be too far from the truth if I said that the majority of anime fans, those from cons, and those that don't even care to voice an opinion in online forums, enjoy a good dub. Not to mention while it can be a sacrifice (in some series more so than others), a dub can really help sell a series. So again, I'm all for a dub.
>>20
I'm not sure if I'm reading this right or wrong... but I agree to a certain extent. I think that a lot of fans are so ignorant of the Japanese language they can't even distinguish good acting from bad in Japanese. Yet they are experts in criticizing an English dub. I think, for them at least, anime is all about the foreign appeal more so than the entertainment. It's not only the exotic language, but foreign culture is very appealing to them. Still though, that doesn't give them right to criticize, sometimes overly harshly, a dub they haven't even heard yet. Alas, that's the world we live in. I've learned to just ignore those fools.
On a final note, and this is it for me... thank you Whispers, for everything. I especially enjoyed your research on all the Victorian period tidbits of information. I can only hope that Rightstuf at least attempts to do a research like yours. :)
All I can say is I wish they would ACTUALLY make a dub. The anime takes place in England. All of the characters (barring the bilingual Indian guy) are supposed to be speaking English. Wouldn't it be cool for them to ACTUALLY speak English? Like Chevalier D'Eon, a dubbed audio track would be fabulous. Dubbing this anime would just be plain common sense.
I like buying anime from RightStuf during their infamous sales. And there's going to be a beautiful PVC figure of Emma. But I'm rather angry that they decided not to dub it. Why not let someone else license it who will dub it?
I also appreciated the hard work you guys put into the fansubs. Thank you.
It's a shame we won't get to see the rest until the DVDs hit the shelves (metaphorically speaking), but it's about time someone followed suit to the manga and brought this to market here. It's good to see that someone still believes that quality sells.
Although I hate to bring it up and be subject to scrutiny based on this single comment, did anyone else notice that the availability date posted for preorder is in 2012? I must assume that it is a placeholder until they get those 1000 preorders so that they can fund it and get everyone in the credits as promised, but that definitely startled me. It didn't take that long to make the series in the first place, which is a much more daunting task by any measure; so, I think they're just being pessimistic about their delivery date. In any case, starting ordering to show that bringing this over was indeed a good choice!
I guess this is goodbye then, huh? Thanks to whispers and the team for their hard works all this time. Without you guys, i would probably would never know about Emma. It was by accident, found the anime in one of my friend's computer. and it was in 2006. It stuck with me ever since. the first time i saw it, beautiful.. and this comes from a guy who loves mecha, action-pack, animes.... Must buy the DVD!!! dub or no dub, either way is fine by me. lol.
if it's going to be dub, English ascent is a must. if it's normal english, i rather hear the japanese language. lol
Personally I prefer Japanese language with English subtitles. As far as people who criticize the dubs of series, I can understand why it would be silly to criticize something that hasn't come out yet. But, it calls to mind that I was rather frustrated (quite recently) to find that one of my favorite series had been dubbed with apparently little attention given to keeping with the original intent of the series.
I think that Right Stuf is making a good decision for the most part, because Emma is so excellent already and it takes a lot of work to improve on a great original. I really would like to know when they will release the set though...I certainly couldn't wait until 2012.
And of course, I have to thank the staff here for doing such a great job with the fansubs. I especially enjoyed the lesson bit at the end of each episode. Who thought I'd be learning this much during an anime?
I think this bears repeating.
>Japanese audio and English-language subtitles: THERE IS NO DUB
>$37 for a season.
>Japanese audio and English-language subtitles: THERE IS NO DUB
>$37 for a season.
>Japanese audio and English-language subtitles: THERE IS NO DUB
>$37 for a season.
>Japanese audio and English-language subtitles: THERE IS NO DUB
>$37 for a season.
>Japanese audio and English-language subtitles: THERE IS NO DUB
>$37 for a season.
As disappointed as I was when faced with the fact of a long wait to finish the show, that vanished as soon as I saw the price. For a second I was afraid they might keep a higher price even without the cost of dubs due to it being a niche release. The first season of Genshiken, also 12 episodes long, cost me about TWICE that, and included a dub I'll try maybe once or twice. So I've already preordered both sets, the first time I've ever done this for any DVD. I do hope I got in early enough for the "reward". Did anyone get any notice that they were within the first 1000?
Now that iitran is free to continue Bangaihen, would you consider perhaps in between Bangaihen chapters, subbing Tetsuko no Tabi? I'm sure there are plenty of train otaku in 1chan who would love to be of help with background and cultural information. :)
>>27
I would imagine the date is to give them plenty of wiggle room. If they set a date early on and ran into delays, they'd cause a lot of irritation to their customers.
actually i don't care at all about the price or the dubs i wanted to see the end but here is another five months before i can see the end i really despise them with all my heart and soul
I'd like to take some time out from lurking to thank whispers and crew for all the good times. Pre-orders are all ready in. Dub, no dub, whatever. It's a quality show, the people at Right Stuf are good people, and it's all 70 bucks with free shipping. No complaints here.
Just get the Emma Second Act RAWS for episode 10-12.
And if you want to support good anime that you like, import the R2 DVDs direct from Japan. Don't give your money to third party sub/dub licensing companies. Give your money direct to the animation studios in Japan.
Overcome the language barrier, and watching fansubs will no longer be for understanding the conversation/storyline, but a fun exercise to spot for translation mistakes. Trust me.
I just found out from ANN! So does that mean that you cant sub it anymore? I mean you just have a 3 eps to go. Cant you guys still sub it privately without them knowing. I mean look at Naruto, its licensed and yet they know people fansub it. I cant wait for the ending. I cant buy dvd's no more. I was going away this year. I was bumed out but, then I found out I wasn't. When I heard this I was happy because then I would be able to finish Emma but, now I can't. Please! I really appreciate you guys for subbing it, I really do but, CAN'T you please finish the show? I am going to get married soon and I cant be into anime no more which really sucks! But, before I get married I'm trying to watch as much anime as possible. I cant buy dvd's because my parents are against it. If I watch it now, then I don't have to worry about never knowing the ending. I cant buy the dvd because of my situation. If I was a normal girl then I would be able to buy it but, I am a muslim girl and I can't watch anime anymore. I have to grow out of it but, I don't want to. This might sound stupid but, its the honest truth.
You guys do a great job with Emma and I dont see anyone else who could take your place. This anime is yours. If anyone decides to fansub the rest it would be ashame because I know they wont be as good as you guys. Whatever the situation is, I really enjoyed you guys. Thanks for subbing such a masterpiece of an anime. I always loved whispers guide since, I am a history buff. I hope great things come to you in the future. Arigatou gozaimasu!^^
Is 2012 correct?
It seems to be too far ahead in the future =(
Mog, yes, you forgot someone. YOURSELF!! Thanks Mog for uber-fast translations as well O_o.
If whispers is playing Hannibal (from A-Team) can I be Murdock? the often crazy, guy who sometimes disappears and appears out of nowhere? haha
Yeah... Goodbye Emma.... Goodbye Anime Expo...
>>36
Sorry, but now that the anime is licensed, it cannot be subbed. You would be asking everyone to steal. Fansubbing a licensed show is theft. The people who watch Naruto and the like just don't care. They're thieves, they probably have MP3s and such as well.
Additionally, since you are a muslim, you should be made aware that all fansubs are illegal. Fansubbing depends on the distribution of copyrighted material without the consent of the copyright holder, which is illegal, but tolerated by the companies in the absence of a local licensee. However, Allah does not make distinctions between "tolerated illegal" and illegal. The law is law. You should not be seeking a means to circumvent it. Your God is a lot less lenient than mine in these matters. I wouldn't want you to get into any trouble.
>>35
Translations are still useful for introducing friends to a show. :3
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
Too bad, for many reasons :
I hope this will end with a split of an underground translation group, as it did for Death Note.
Why don't everybody create a petition to the Japanese studios that if they develop English sub-titles to all anime, people abroad is willing to purchase through international retailers such as Amazon.co.jp .
The Japanese government is positioning the Animation industry as their strategic industry but the to tell you the truth, the animation industry while big here in Japan is just barely breaking even since they are only targeting the domestic market and most studios does not have the know how to market abroad.
Adding sub-title does not cost that much and can be placed as closed captions so that it can be turned off for people not needing them.
Just show them that there are consumers willing to put there money where the mouth is.
Here is a link to the closest thing to an industry cooperation group.
I've been a long-time lurker. Thank Whispers, Xtian, Mog, uhhhh.....and everyone else who had a hand in the subbing. It's been a wild ride; I'm just a little sad it ends here. Oh well, those dvd's I bought will tide me over. I just have to wait until 2012, that's all. heh
Don't worry, we won't be waiting until 2012 for Emma. That's just the placeholder that Rightstuf.com uses when there isn't a release date for an item yet. I'm sure they'll announce one soon.
Anyways... I just wanna give my thanks to everyone here who took part in translating Emma. While it may not be your translations out there in the manga and anime, you definitely helped get the series noticed by building up a group of fans with your work.
Glad they're releasing it in whole box sets too. The lack of dub has already upset some people, but with that awesome price I can't really complain. Now to wonder what art they'll be using for the boxes.
As the writer of n°41, I must add a few words...
How could I forgot thanking the iitran team, that gave us a so good translation for all Emma episodes ? Thank you guys for having invited us in the fantastic world of Emma. And I hope seeing you soon in another work...
I want to say thanks. Thanks Whispers. Licence or not I will still buy the DVD series. As well as the manga. Great stories are rare in the anime world.
> Why don't everybody create a petition to the Japanese studios that if they develop English sub-titles to all anime, people abroad is willing to purchase through international retailers such as Amazon.co.jp .
Before asking for this (and you too, >>35), maybe you should be looking at how much Japanese DVD releases cost. See, Japanese people pay for more for a single disc with just two episodes on it than we'll be paying for an entire season of Emma. Japanese DVDs are incredibly expensive.
So we pay less for our anime but more for our manga. Cosmic balance is preserved, or something.
Also, no, obviously the 2012 date is not real. Note that the date is "12-12-12", it's an obvious placeholder. They could have made a better a way to display "no date known yet", though.
Oh my...I'm a little stunned...I was so pleased to find this discussion group when i wandered into this site early this year...Thanks so much Whispers, watching your subbed episodes were really enjoyable...
I hope this isnt the end of the discussion group... It's really nice to discuss Emma - manga or anime. What's to become of that post-anime chat? Sigh...
Oh right..whispers,correct me if i'm wrong but you still "owe" us 3 more "whisper's guide to emma's world" ;p (just kidding). How about putting it up in the torrents section? i meant only the guides,if it's not much trouble and if u feel like it that is. [don't flame me or anything,i'm just saying it;can't blame ppl 4 trying ;) ]
>>36 [aaliyah416]. i understand what you were saying, but it is not necessarily the end of animes for you, i mean, a friend of a friend of mine is a houswife (a muslim too) but has 80gigs x 3 harddisks full of animes. And she still enjoys animes every now and then and you know what? her husband doesn't mind at all because she had never neglected her duties. My point is, having some entertainment is fine as long as you put your duties as first priority. Plus who knows, maybe your future husband is an anime-lover too.
Oh and big thanx and praises goes to crews of iitran for superb subs of emma.enjoyed each episodes very much.also to whispers for those guides;very informative.
now how am i going to get those 3 remaining eps? in times like this i wished there exists a 2nd group of fsubbers for emma :p
maybe i'll buy the dvd someday.i wonder why rightstuff don't do dub for emma?,maybe they're afraid they would sound stupid trying to speak brit accent.or just mebe no one in rightstuff is interested enough in emma to dub it(in this case they should change their name to "left"stuff, lol).sucks if true ..they should have given it to others who will dub it.
Sorry for the long post; i don't get to be online very much :(
They're likely not making a dub because Emma is still a niche title, and they figure it's better to put it out for cheap, rather than raise the price to cover the cost of making the dub. Dubbing takes a lot of time and money.
I don't want to go into a flame war but Japan's pricing structure for anime differs from other movie DVD.
Anime DVD are still mostly rented out and not sold, thus the demand for them is stupidly low. This will not change unless demand for DVD goes up but demand for anime DVD will not change unless price goes down in Japan.
It is a classical chicken or the egg scenario.
If people starts buying them instead of renting them out then prices will go down since it is proof that market structure changed.
> Now that iitran is free to continue Bangaihen, would you consider perhaps in between Bangaihen chapters, subbing Tetsuko no Tabi? I'm sure there are plenty of train otaku in 1chan who would love to be of help with background and cultural information. :)
To tell the truth I am pretty curious about that show. But seeing as how I am useless for anime translation, and our other translators mostly just help us out because they really love Emma, there's not much I could do about it. I'd definitely be doing my small part to help out if it happened, though.
Although on the other hand it would amuse me greatly to see a "1chan Translation Group" pop up.
Thanks all for the wonderful translations. A lot of care went into the episodes, and it showed.
For myself, I'm pleased that subbed versions will be available.
Again, thanks (and I'll really miss whisper's guides)...
wha-a-a-t! I feel both happy and sad.
Happy, because Emma is going to be FINALLY licensed; and sad, because I know how SLOW licensed material gets released. I wonder if me or my non-existent future child will ever be able to watch Emma!!!
Just kidding. I was so eager waiting for the "shocking" ending of Emma... hits a pebble on the floor
Well nevermind. I want to THANK ALL of you who had subbed Emma so far. You are great super-heroes to me. I am sure that thanks to you the license was possible. Western fans would have never knew what on earth is Emma if werent for you people. You deserve a trophy!
And you people, don´t be so sad... there is still Further Tales, and its as interesting as ever! :)
Okay, first -- yay for the series picked up, even though it means you won't be subbing it anymore. ;_;
Second: Kudos to you guys for suck consistently good work! Seriously. :)
Finally, if you're taking suggestions on something to sub next, would you be willing to take on Heroic Age? Since there are only two groups subbing it, Sphere is pretty much dead in the water, and I've heard bad things about Your Mom's subbing. I don't want to seem like I'm shoulting "ZOMG YOU MUST SUB THIS NOW!!!", I'm just making a suggestion that a great series be subbed by a great group.
No, seriously: you guys are great subbers. :)
Thank you! :)
AWWWW... T_T
I'm just sad for this news, because this licensing has nothing to do with others countries...and since this is the only place I could get a subbed Emma series (I couldn't find one in portuguese, my 1st language), I've just lost the chance to watch the rest of the anime...
T____T
But thank you iitran group, I've appreciated all the work done on Emma.
::sniffle:: jumps for joy
I am so happy and yet so sad. Sad that I won't be getting the instant graification of watching the iitran subs of Emma. But now we have to wait until Date Available - Dec 12 2012 (<--thats from the web page for pre order.) But I'm glad that it recived its licencing. :D
I would just like to thank all of the wonderful people from the iitran group that worked on Emma for us. Our thank you written here will not translate all of our thankfulness. (is that a word?) lol anywho THANK YOU THANK YOU... and i'm totally going to miss Wispers guide to Emma.
Once more THANK YOU!!!
Why drop it just because it was licenced. You could have done the last 3 episodes and be done with it. Come on I mean Bleach and Naruto were licenced and people are still subbing it so why can't you guys do the same with Emma?
>>60
People like you are everything that is wrong with America today.
let me get this straight, cause i cant get it...that means that i wont be able to finish the other episodes of the serie? that you wont sub anymore? i dont get it..really i dont get it.....if getting licensed is a good thing, well congratulations but i think i will retire from the animation world, because to be honest from this side of the world the only way you can get them is online, i have getting excited with a few of them, and when i am most excited all of the sudden i cant get them subbed anymore.. so i guess that's it...well was a real pleasure guys you are very talented...and see ya!!!..one more thing..if someone can explain to me this license stuff...what it really means, i will appreciate it. best regards..
Same as most people here, I just wanted to thank you guys for your amazing work. Without this site, i never would have known about Emma!! THANK YOU!!
I have my doubts wether it's cheap or not ordering from amazon and such...(Specially when your own currency is not the dollar)
If I were to buy every anime that gets licensed out there, my family would go bankrupt XD
ah... Heroic Age... after "Nadesico" everything Sci-Fi that Xebec makes seem kinda repetitive and well... predictable (they do have good shows like Honey and Clover tho). I think the best Sci-Fi show this season is "Toward the TERRA". I love the intro "endscape" by the group "UVERworld" for that show. 2nd to that show I'd saw "Darker than BLACK" by Bones... can't go wrong with Bones for Sci-Fi (fulmetal alchemist, wolf's rain, eureka seven, etc.) But... this is a whole different topic.
I guess you are either rich or someone that tries to be righteous. (mind the tone).
Anyway, in my country, either I buy pirated copies, or I don't buy at all and become the frog under the coconut husk (meaning: Lost touch with the outside world).
I wonder if I can blame myself for not working hard enough to earn that extra money to buy originals or that prices are just too darn expensive to even afford it.
Anyway, Emma gets pick up. Great. At least more people will get to watch this great series.
BUT, 3 episodes from the ending and the only subbers for Emma drop it. Ethics or not, at least put up some kind of subtitle file? Even a rough translation with bad english will do, so that other people won't rip it off as their own since they won't know if the translation is good enough or correct enough.
anyway, it's up to the people behind Emma. I am just suggesting, doubt it will be even considered. Since it not an option anymore.
Anyway, thanks for Season 1. Hopefully, after the DVD is out, more people will appreciate it.
Delurking just to say: Thanks muchly for all your hard work! Was greatly appreciated. Thanks for introducing me to this excellent series!
But now to wait for a UK release since I've spent too much money in the past on shipping and customs. Ah, the torture. I may have to find the raws before then. My japanese is getting better... Still, nothing comes close to the quality of your subs.
Thanks again!
> I have my doubts wether it's cheap or not ordering from amazon and such...(Specially when your own currency is not the dollar)
The entire season is going to be about $50 (and is $38 if you pre-order from Right Stuf). No matter how you look at it that's cheap. Moreover, the dollar has been pretty weak against lots of currencies lately, so it's likely to be cheap especially if your currency is not the dollar.
> Ethics or not, at least put up some kind of subtitle file?
That's just as illegal as full subs.
> ah... Heroic Age... after "Nadesico" everything Sci-Fi that Xebec makes seem kinda repetitive and well... predictable
Stellvia was both original and brilliant, though!
> I think the best Sci-Fi show this season is "Toward the TERRA". I love the intro "endscape" by the group "UVERworld" for that show.
Toward the Terra is good, but compared to the manga the anime feels a little bit slow.
> 2nd to that show I'd saw "Darker than BLACK" by Bones... can't go wrong with Bones for Sci-Fi (fulmetal alchemist, wolf's rain, eureka seven, etc.) But... this is a whole different topic.
Darker than Black was my favourite show of the season before Dennou Coil started. I don't really agree that you can't go wrong with Bones, though - I thought Wolf's Rain was a great concept that just totally fizzled, and RahXephon never really went anywhere either.
RahXephon did have the one episode written and directed by the director of Dennou Coil, though, and that one was good! Can you tell I am really liking Dennou Coil yet? This is an official iitran recommendation: Watch Dennou Coil!
jeez... that's a pity that there's no more sub for Emma...
and i cant hold back saying those who decided to do the license at this moment in time is really #%$!@#$ to have pick such a timing... it's just so turn off...
sigh~~~ and how much i always look forward to iichan translation... still, thanks for the past work. it was a fantastic job done!! Thank You!!
sigh Well, that's my copy on order. IItran, please keep working hard. Shimako-chan is getting lonely with all the bandwidth splashing around and not going anywhere. We're very much looking forward to the next Bangaihen.
I wonder if this is what talking to a shadow is like. Impassioned words falling on deaf ears. Nothing but a semblance of someone listening. Yet somehow there is a response. But it's just noise and chatter. そうかひら~~
Close the thread, open the nExt...
Now see here. "Impassioned words falling on deaf ears?" Do you have any idea how much it breaks my heart to stop work on this series? And yet I have to. At least I have Bangaihen to work on.
I agree with alot of people in that the timing was really really bad for them to announce the licensing of Emma. But the law is the law and you can't go against it.
You guys did a really wonderful job with the series. I'm sad that it will take so long to find out the ending, but I guess it's worth the wait.
Thank you for all your hard work, and sorry for the bad news.
No matter how "weak" the dollar is becoming, it is mostly to other world power currencies. If Megumi (who speaks portuguese) is from Brazil, then usually the Real (brazilian currency) is still quite weak against the dollar. Electronics and many merchandise as well, cost 3x as much as the US. Imagine paying $600+ for a Wii. Or heaven forbid $1500+ for a PS3. I'm not talking about the exchange rate... the Wii is 1500 Reals which is about $650 or so... O_o (btw, brazilian monthly minimum wage has just been raised to 240 Reals = $71)
Welcome to the rest of the world.
>>74
Thank you Whispers for speaking up. Our hearts are also broken. Even my WIFE (a level headed realist as ever can be) enjoys watching Emma with myself and the kids. Even my uber-too-cool 13yo son enjoys Emma.
Thank you again, but I've got a thought...
It's not up to the quality of Emma, but the 2005 remake of Glass Mask is still very good; looking at the struggles of a young lady who has a talent for acting and wants with all her heart to pursue her craft. No sex, no fanservice, jsut a really well written story and good characters.
The series has ended (for now) but unfortunately the subbers (http://mugen-anime.net/) get out an episode every two or three months. It's a labor of love and now they're even further behind.
We're currenntly watching "Heroic Age" as well (and sadly the subbers are perverted fanservice hungry arrogant twits that insert stupid comments into the show), and on folk's recommendation we're going to check out "Dennou Coil".
But could you please look into picking up Glass Mask? There's a following but it's dying out because of the release schedule.
It really is a good story of tragedy and triumph with decent story, char's and situations.
!WAHa - hehe, i guess we just have different tastes =) I saw 2 episodes of Dennou Coil and didn't catch my attention. And I loved RaXephon with all those weird plot twists (albeit a little over the top)... I couldn't stand stellvia ^_^;;
at least we agree that Emma is the One Ring that rules them all!!
and to everybody who wants to see translations and are crying, either:
1) Not to sound callous or indifferent to the plight of some. But if you like anime so much and you invest a lot of time in it then learn Japanese. It requires much patience and devotion in time and hard work, but nothing comes easy in life. It took me 3+ years but I studied hard, and now know enough to translate, and I haven't stepped foot in Japan yet.
2) go ask those "naruto" or "bleach" subbers, maybe they'll pick it up shrug
I went to the website and the dvd is not available until 2012. I guess it take a long time to find english voices to be dubbed in it. I hope they good english voice actors. Or any other language. I dissapointed that you are no longer subbing the episodes . . . I was hoping that if any group that picked up Emma would wait until like month after it finish, but I guess it is very popular in japan. I want to thank you for subbing I have been sharing it with a lot of friends. And now Emma has a great fan base around the world, and looking foward to the release of the series dvd
Yet again:
The 2012 date is a "placeholder" date until they figure out the real release date. It's not real.
The releases will be subtitled only, full season boxsets.
To all the hard working ppl at Iitran, I just want to really thank you for your hard, dedicated work to this series. Its really made one of the little pleasures of this summer for me, and when I first stumbled upon it, I really thought I would dislike it! So, as much as Emma being licesned seems to be bittersweet for all of us, I can only hope they'll do just a good a job as all of you. I am really very grateful. ^___^
Ooooh, I'm very sad hearing these news!
But I want to thank your great job!I always enjoyed reading your subs and I like this site so much! You did work so hard, I was always thankful watching the new eps.You are the best!!^_^
(sorry for my terrible english ^^" )

Ara, gomen. I was referring purely to this thread, and the need to breathlessly repeat some same basic facts again and again. I was sorely tempted to run my mouth, but that would hardly have been dignified. And that would be words on deaf ears. I guess that was a little abstract...
Of course we absolutely can't thank you enough for the hard work iitran has put into the series. It's been a great trip. I'm sure we can agree that this is the best thing that could happen to the series.
LOL! I really appreciate what you said. Believe me, I have anime on my hard drive too. I was thinking that too. I could still watch anime occasionally, I just cant make that 24 hr thing, you know. I never said I would go cold turkey. Im always going to love anime and watch it. Maybe not as much know but, its just part of me, its part of who I am.
I just practically turned 20, Im not old. I know for some that maybe yound but, in yemen, where Im from, thats getting kinda of old. So yeah, thanx alot Bluethree for being interested in what I had to say. Im still laughing in my mind about what you said!^^
i'm still very heartbroken since you guys were doing such an amazing job. i am truly thankful for giving us the opportunity to enjoy such a beautiful series.
>>11 Hey, Shii, how can I know if I am going to be added to the "special credits" or no? any special email after purchase? anyone?
Please, don´t answer me: when I get the DVDs please... :D
To tell the truth it IS quite cheap. And I am not sure if I am happy it´s not dubbed... I guess I am happy that it won´t be damaged by bad subbing. That eases my heart.
saddened and disappointed... but thank you itran for all the work you have done.
;_; I'm both happy and sad it was picked up. Now more people can enjoy Emma, but I'm a second year university student going towards PHD. I can't afford to buy DVDs.
Thank you so much Whispers, and everyone, for the hard work you did to make Emma so loved!
Even university students can afford these discs. Once again, it's $38 per season.
I'd love it if they included something like Whisper's guides to Emma's world. They were really insightful and just a treat to watch.

You can always try asking in the animeondvd forums. Company reps seem to read those for some reason.
I am deeply sadened that I will need to wait alittle longer to see the end of the second act. I am very thankful for all the work that whispers and the team put into translating Emma. So I have one question what is next for the iitran translation group?
Well i guess I better stop typing and go buy the DVDs and begin the wait.
The first thing I want to do is to thank you from the bottom of my heart, iitran for your incredibly hard work and the passion that you put up in subbing Emma. I will try do buy the dvd's (I'm from Romania, I don't have a credit card and they say they don't accept international checks :(, so I don't know how I can order) but even with the original dvd's there won't be a whispers guide :((. Maybe they will consider doing some research and adding some notes (keeping finger crossed and preying). If they are smart, they'll hire whispers(or even better, the hole iitran team) and everybody will be happy :p I've been lurking this site for quite some time, and never had the courage to post, but now it was due time to express my gratitude.
Oh, almost forgot, thank you also for Emma Bangaihen and keep up the good work!!
> the first 1,000 anime fans to order each box set will be recognized in a "special thanks" section
So... they're publishing a list of their customers? I hope all of those people are aware of this.

I, as the representative of all John Smiths in the world, am appalled at this blatant breach of privacy and trust.
Really, now... ~_~
I'm so sad that you won't sub Emma anymore... I really like the series alot. Thank you for your hard work!!! It will probably take long time before the dvd's are realesed, and if they only will be realesed i USA I can't buy them, I hope they will come to europe too..
I wonder could anyone give me the link to the site where you download the raws? I would really appreciate it!

I'm sad to hear that the Emma subs are no longer available, as the work everyone put into them was top-notch. It just won't be the same without "whisper's Guide to Emma's World."
First things first, MANY THANKS TO whispers and staff for all their hard work on Emma from manga to anime. I'm glad that I was introduced to this series and have followed it ever since and tried to bring in many more followers along with me, have succeeded to some extent :D.
Moving on, now I'm not as big of an anime buyer as I am a manga buyer, I spend over $100/month on manga but usually only buy anime sporadically definitely not at full price due to its costs. But for Emma season DVDs at $38? You have to be crazy to find that an unreasonable price when that is nearly the price of a single 3 ep dvd in some cases.
For everyone complaining, those that have means to buy the dvds should put their money in their mouths and support the series. To say things like "I would buy the dvds but to make me wait so long for the last three eps makes me so frustrated that i won't"? This shows me that you probably wouldn't have bought them anyway because "OMG I already have them for free why pay money". If you really wanted to see the last 3 eps logic says you would be the first to pay for it.
For those that can't buy the dvds or afford to, then live with the fact that you can still see the raws. Yes there are some groups that continue subbing or translating stuff that gets licensed but don't complain about something you can't do yourself. And if you can then go ahead and do it yourself. I can't read a lick of japanese, can understand only some spoken words yet still hold a large collection of japanese manga (complete hardcover of Ashita no Joe, Crimson Hero, Worst) of things that will never come here, were licensed and I couldnt wait, or were licensed and dropped. I really like something so I make due. As for anime I live with raws since I can't afford to import dvds that pricey. Seeing something in motion you should be able to get the gist of what they are saying, heck make your own dialogue. I've done that many times with my brother playing through import video games we can't understand and work our way through. It can be fun sometimes. You're not a robot, you have the ability to think and understand what's going on without being told. "A picture is worth a thousand words" I think was a famous quote.
As for where to get those raws, some of you really seem to want everything handed to you. It took me not more than a couple minutes to find the raws to ep 10 and 11 once I heard the series was licensed and downloaded them overnight.
Anyways that was a bit long but it just irritates me to see so many people coming on here and expressing disgust towards the lovely ppl that have helped to enlighten us to this fabulous series. It's enough to bring a lurker like me out of hiding heh. Look forward to more Bangaihen.
Many thanks once again on behalf of the fans I've converted since I know they don't even know about this site since they always got what they needed from me.
Anyone have any experience with this company's work? How is the quality of translation? Any screencaps? How are they with font quality, and color?
I hope that the company realizes that the reason Emma is a worthwhile title is not just because it is a compelling story, but also because of the incredible work of iitran. If not for the brilliant storytelling, research, and technical skills to produce such a high quality package there would be no fanbase for them to market to.
I like the idea of seeing high-quality video and audio with my Emma (with how breathtaking the art is in LQ I can't imagine it at master level,) but all it will take is a single thick line of neon yellow/white ugly font to turn my stomach.
There's a reason fansubs are so popular, and it isn't just money. Fans work out of love, and they want others to appreciate their work and the series, it's a desire to share from the flashy karaoke to the wonky (but perfectly matched) typesetting. Hopefully they don't end up with low quality subs done by some part-timer who just wanted a paycheck.
Thank you whispers and company for all of your beautiful work! I've enjoyed every chapter of the manga, every episode of both seasons, every Whisper's Guide! Although it sucks that we will now have to wait just a bit longer to see the end of the second season of the anime, the fact that it was very likely your efforts that grew the fan-base that allows us to now anticipate enjoying the licensed copies. And it will probably be all the sweeter for it.
Thanks for everything!
@ 102: Rightstuf's always been one of the best companies in terms of good-quality subs, translation notes and typesetting, as in they do put sign translations in the position and style of the Japanese text. Main subs are typically yellow, but imo their font is more eye-pleasing compared to other companies. Seriously though, if you watch enough DVDs, you get used to whatever white or yellow text they throw at you; "I don't like the colors" is a pretty lame reason not to buy DVDs. I mean, what do you expect, 12 different font colors coordinated by hair color like with Static's My-Hime?
It might be strange, but I'm always happy when I hear news like this. I don't know if this will happen in Italy, so I'm happy that somewhere in the world someone "more important" than a group of fan believes in a "project" like Emma.
I would like to thanks IItran translation group. Thanks for your work!
This is total horse shit.... Im loving the anime, now being liscensed and no longer subbing? please no... Im getting into the climax of the whole story, why now....
Thanks IItran translation group for your effort.
Are there any other translation groups that can translate the final 3 episodes???
in before the barrage of SHUT THE HECK UP
I don't want to see whispers or ANY MEMBER of this group to be harassed by any company with the law on their side. This group has done a magnificent job subbing the series up until now, and I don't want to see it end badly for them.
Sure, it ends badly for us, but if you had read the previous posts the series will be SUB ONLY (kind of a surprise to hear that) and it will be INEXPENSIVE. Remember when subs on VHS were $10 more than VHS dubs to take advantage of the fanboy base? Maybe this will be the new trend by Funimation. If we support them it can only be better for us. If we oppose them it can (will) get much, much worse.
Yes, I'm disappointed by the timing of their licencing announcement. Licencing an anime while it's still being fansubbed is like getting beat up for your lunch money. All I can say is weather it out, you'll have the DVDs before you know it.
Pizzagrapes -- Anime old timer, 20+ years
Well... this is a very bad news for me... since not many anime - translated or not - comes by my country and since Emma was only subbed by Ichan I was expecting to get to finish downloading the series..... it's sad... seems I won't get to see the end.
Anyway guys, congrats on the terrific job you did on it (both series).
Keep it up!!
Amazon and others ship world-wide.
Almost 40 dollars for one season? Ridiculous. Sorry if I'm "cheap" or not enough of a fan.
I'll stick to my illegal stuff until it's down to 20 a box, kthx. Get friends to translate the stuff. So sorry if I can't afford to get a single cheap item I want every few weeks or so, even with a job. Getting a boxed set that is the same price as 2 weeks worth of food is not worth the money.
Not only are you cheap and not enough of a fan, you're also kind of insane.
The raws of the last three episodes are still available for download, aren't they? If you watch those I'm sure you can figure out what happens.
From Malaysia, sad, theres no DVD for that here... even if there is- the price would be astronomical (a normal monthly salary would be $50)- no fair to everyone getting their DVD...
awww.. please at least finish translating it up to 12 :(
Gees i hoped that some random group will anonymously sub last 3 eps but it doesn't look like it, this blows
Guys, someone uploaded a torrent for ep.10.
omg...guess I'm too late.....havent been here for a while and got shocked when learned that emma got licenced (well, in the other hand, kinda expected it, but not this early)....too bad i've only seen eps 00 and 01...... and d/led ep 09 (how weird is that?)
btw, thanks IIchan guys & girls for all the subs so far..... will continue to support your future works ^^
Posting links or pointers to fansubs of licensed anime... especially when it risks legal problems for us... makes whispers cry.
Yes, the last three episodes have been subbed by another group. No, we really don't want to publicize links to them here. There are other sites where one might do such a thing; Google is your friend.
I'm aware that if you're determined enough, there isn't a thing I can do about it, but please... don't.
They did it up to episode 12 - I heard that their translations are fine - but the quality of episode 10 was bad (video/audio). Episode 11-12 were better
lol episode 10 was bad cause it had very low quality raw just check tt raw for emma 10 it sucks they only took what they could
>>124
very good translation, ep 10 had questionable good quality, but its not that bad to go and kill yourself, ep 11 and 12 are normal. altough i kinda missed the guide at the end
translation was fine but soon someone will be ripping emma it's like movies like spiderman 3, harrypotter some will rip it not for now but soon.
Lol they shoulfd do it already with japaneese dvds
yup someone will be ripping it i already cancel my order rightstuf make's me wait for so long imagine waiting for 1 month 1 week and they allways says they keep working i'm disappointed when emma 2nd 10-12 has been sub by other group so i full back my order and that's how the story end emma not that good the manga is good hope that they'll remake emma like neon evangelion and make it a 36 ep .maybe when the dvd of emma becomes available they'll be ripping very very soon (sigh)
If you want it remade (which I highly doubt will happen anyways) then BUY the DVD's. No company will remake a product if no one is buying it. And Emma has no where near the fanbase that NGE has, and probably never will. NGE has been re-released so many times only because fans keep buying the products, even though they're usually the exact same product, just with a different name and slightly different features. You can't even compare the two.
To reiterate; if you don't buy the Emma DVDs you aren't supporting the product, the company then doesn't make as much money and doesn't know that there's yet another fan out there that might just buy more Emma related products, thus lowering the chance even further of any Emma related merchandise.
And honestly, the boxsets aren't that expensive, considering how most anime DVD's only have 3-5 episodes on them and cost $25 each. So you get 12 episodes plus any bonus features for $50, compare that to, say, the Hellsing series that ran for 13 episodes. With Hellsing they released the episodes on 4 DVD's that with tax came to ~$23; that's $92, $42 more than the 12 episodes of Emma, just to give some perspective.
hoping that they remake emma soon i already order the dvd but it's not yet release still waiting.
to whispers
Ever been told, that you can do magic? If not -- you know it now.
I think, I'll order RightStuff-released DVD's. A few more enquiries on dealing with overseas shipping, but mind is made).
Mind -- this is told by die-hard fansub-loader and copyright-hater). I have torrented down all the second season, but could not come over the strange reluctance to watch them. Hell is this a first sign of rehabitation ?
Just wanted to tell you my BIG, WARM THANKS for doing all this work to bring us this wonderful anime & manga!! I'll be looking forward for your next releases!!
Just got a Right Stuf catalog in the mail (I don't really use it, but they send one anyway), and looking at an ad for Emma in the catalog, it says Emma should be released sometime in 2008. That's not saying much of anything really, but it's better than the placeholder of 2012, right?
>>136
Haha, I was just about to post this. And yeah, it's good to know the DVDs will be hitting in 2008. Just wish it was a more specific date. Better than nothing!
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t239/ana-nita/misc/S5001724.jpg
Crappy pic of the ad for those who care to look.
hope i can see emma laugh like urd =))
Great, now I have that image in my head and it isn't going away
Omg it says it will be released in freaking 2012 thats way too long!!!!!!!
First boxset out in June.
http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/news/individual/?ForumThreadName=FT0000000268&ReturnTo=Main
Annoyingly enough I've been trying to pre-order both of these. The idiots won't ship out to the UK, has to be a US postal address.
God damn it.
>>144 Maybe you should try later at Amazon, or some other retailer.
It's been mentioned earlier, but I'd like to see the Whisper's notes for the last three episodes. It certainly doesn't breach any copyright, and it is unlikely (no matter how good the company) that a similar thing will be included in the boxsets.
Wow. I am so happy. the release date for first DVD is june 24th this year! yay! Thanks "anonymous".
Well, I got my name on the box. I guess most of you did already. I am so thrilled. It was thanks to this board that I found out they were pre-ordering the item.
Thank you all!
Love.
Thanks for the link! I've purcased 1-4 of the manga so far, and I just did the preorder.
Although I'm worried about their date of 2012 for the second act...is this just a placeholder date?
The 2012 is just a placeholder. The first season boxset had the date of 2012 up until a few months or so ago, too =)
The Emma website got an update and a trailer.
Forgot link.
http://emma.rightstuf.com/
The first box set came out awhile ago, and it's awesome. Aside from one pretty big problem. Every episode after 1 has mono audio. Rightstuf is already collecting information from buyers to keep them updated on a future replacement plan. If you have the boxset and want your discs replaced, send the following information to info@rightstuf.com
--------
E-mail Subject Line: Emma S1 Audio
Your name
Your AnimeOnDVD username (if you have one, if not then remove this)
Your Right Stuf Order # (or where you bought the set, if it wasn’t from Right Stuf)
Your e-mail address
Your mailing/shipping address
--------
Otherwise it's a great release, so it's a real shame something like this happened. I'm glad they've been quick to respond and help out though. The replacement discs may take awhile to make though, so sit tight.
