hey, has anyone noticed? from the opening sequence, it seems that Nanette has been demoted to being a housemaid - moping the floor in the housemaid's black uniform.
Argh, Eleanor is so different in the anime from in the manga - she's so much bolder!! And William too - less gentlemanly - for pete's sake, cant you just share your umbrella with her after you've turned around and realise she looks worse than a wet dog??!! pple die from colds and pneumonias in those days!!!Fine, you dont exactly like her, but then again, sharing your umbrella wont kill you!!!! Okay, enough with the angsting...

Well, i spotted a grammatical error... dunno what frame, but instead of writing "That Mrs Trollope was his mother", it should be "That Mrs Trollope is his mother" because both parties are still alive and although they are living apart, their mother-son relationship still stands.
Really sorry for being annoying and thanks for the good work in subbing Emma!!

You are so right about Eleanor, i like that she's a little more agressive in the manga it just seems like she sits around and is waiting for William to drop into her lap. And William ooh my that bugged me that he was seemed so MEAN to Eleanor for not stopping, then when he does stop. Like you said he doesn't even share his unbrella... ahh

I think they're trying to sum up the events and the atmosphere in the manga to more compact package, so they can finish emma story with the season 2. I think it's okay to do some changes for the better.

I'm sorry, zenaida, but you are mistaken. Emma is speaking in the past tense, of her impressions: "That Mrs. Trollope was his mother... at that time, I hadn't the slightest idea." There is no grammatical error there.

Well...I am unwilling to launch in a battle of English grammar rights and wrongs... But i still sticking by my stand. Emma might be speaking in past tense, but it is true that Mrs Trollope IS William's mother whether it is 10 years before or after the timeframe of the storyline(assuming both are still alive (im speaking it as present tense taking the storyline timeframe to be the present.))
Here's another example to illustrate my point: Consider this sentence - "Back when i was four-years-old, i met a scary woman at the park. I did not know it then, but she IS my grandmother." The scary woman being my grandmother is a universal truth as long as she is still alive. Universal truths are always in present tenses. Another example: I always thought the world WAS flat until my kindergarten teacher taught me the world IS round.
Gah, i cant believe im talking about grammar over Emma...Freak of Nature, do not let a silly grammatical ambiguity get in the way of our common love for Emma!! Yes, am in anticipation for Episode 4 to come out... any news yet?

could it be that the past tense is used because although mrs. trollope is still the jounes' children's birth mother she has obviously given up her title as such?
after all, it seems that she has renounced her family and has had nothing to do with the jounes children (she is not sure how old william is).
although i think zenaida is right about the grammar, because of the situation i am going to have to agree with freak of nature.
mrs trollope WAS william's mother. now that she has given up her family, she is not his mother any longer.

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!nice of you to analyse Iceboxgirlrocks... but as much as Mrs Trollope isnt staying with her family, i wouldnt want to think of her having become estranged from her family!! She's just staying in the countryside because of health reasons, she still loves her husband and children - and i believe the other way round is true as well! She's still William's mum!!
