Geez, forgot to mention this, been kinda busy, but...
Emma gets kissed! Emma gets caught! Emma gets into the rum! And did I mention... HANS! HANS! HANS!
Work has begun.
HANS!!!!! (squeal!)
Keep up the great work!
HANS!! repeats echoing
No way! I gotta see this! @_@
Is it me or I am the only one who see him as a Victorian Mr Darcy (ah, and with lower social status...).
The sideburns, the look in his eyes, the few words, the hot temper and the passion and dedication for his job (whatever Darcy's job was).
HANS! HANS... (waiting impatiently to next episode)
This is great!!, i just can´t wait anymore!!!
I would chant HANS... but I'm a guy. I shall chant for the blonde maid with the evil looking eyes... forget her name lol
Do you mean Maria, the one with green eyes or Alma, the one that is always with Polly?
ah, Maria... oh how wonderfully your name flows through my lips, if only you would be able to understand my feelings... oh... Maria...
Good lord, this is getting a little saucy, wouldn't you say? Hurrah!
Hey, I'm a BIG Maria fan. (She's the one who chided Tasha with, "See? You don't know anything about Emma, do you?") She seems to be made of 100% snark and vinegar. I like her.
By the way... please be advised that my spoilerific little teaser comments, while 100% accurate, are deliberately phrased in such a way as to be highly misleading. Because I'm evil like that.
Gasp! Miss Emma kissed? Wh-who could possibly be the scoundrel that preyed on her so?
fidget
cool! waiting "unpatiently" for it :)
Er... she gets kissed by Erich right? For helping him rescue his squirrel...I think it was quite cute of him to do that.
why yes! That was so cute! She blushed even by that child´s kiss... She is so innocent. I love victorian times.
But I am not sure I would have survived in it. I would have turned out more like... Monica Campbell.
When the next episode of Emma - A Victorian Romance Second Act will be release ,I cant wait to watch happen next
yes
when is the next episode release???
the second act
I'm curious now. How, exactly, is it that you think we would actually know that? Are you imagining us doing this according to some elaborate schedule, or something?
I believe the answer, >>16, is "when it's done".
We've hit a snag that's delayed us. I'm busily getting a bigger machete.
>>18
That's what they said about Duke Nukem Forever.
ahem Mr. Darcy didn't have a job. Mr. Darcy was a gentleman, meaning he wasn't supposed to work outside of, say, collecting rent from people living on his vast property (I believe the book says he got ten thousand a year). Elizabeth Bennet's father was a gentleman too, but he was pretty far down the noble status ladder because of his eccentricities.
I was the little snag on Ep2 send your hate mail my way~~! Anyhow, it should be going back on track now.
Whew, I waved my machete Xtian's way enough to get him motivated. Crisis over, FULL SPEED AHEAD.
hahaha... yes Satsuki. Mr. Darcy had quite a great life. Aristocracy started dying after the Industrial Revolution and that´s what Emma story is all about. About Gentry and the "kinda-though" life that they had surviving among aristocracy and working class people who believed they could climb up the ladder on their own.
But I still like Hans (who had many skills for a husband, he even can fight)... and Darcy of course, and not just because of his 10k a year (at least he had servants to do the job for him... ).
--- Waiting eagerly for next episode :) ---
I was wondering if Miss Aurelia Hartwick shared some traits with Elizabeth Bennet, since it is said in chapter 30 that she was raised in an uninhibited manner. Also the conversation she had with Mr. Jounes while they were dancing was funny.
Yes, it does. I am sure Richard got caught by her honest and unladylike manners. :p
But somehow she reminds me of Jo from Little Women. Extremely free for a woman.
Oh, I´ll go to sleep now. My wish for tomorrow morning: let the new chapter make my day! love you all. see you!
Aurelia was raised unconventionally, for sure, but I don't think she's cut from the same cloth that Elizabeth Bennet was. Aurelia was raised more of a "free spirit" and Elizabeth was more "be tough and speak your mind, whenever you feel like it." I don't think Aurelia had the emotional strength of Elizabeth Bennet either.
I can't imagine Elizabeth Bennet cracking under the pressure like Aurelia did. (although I still theorize that part of Aurelia's problem was post-partum depression from her numerous pregnancies)
I also had thought that Mrs. Jounes suffered of post partum depression, but it is true that she doesn't like society's conventions and that caused her some anxiety.
Haven't you noticed that the "Free spirited" Jounes share the green eyes of their mother? And the more reserved and proper have blue eyes like their father?
I think you people are thinking WAY too much into this... it's a comic (albeit a decently well researched one by Kaoru Mori) =)
hehehe.. its a manga... a beautiful manga...
yes, it's a "graphic novel" I LOVE MARIA!!! Wish I was born during Victorian Times... but being asian, if I was in England most likely I would have been a street peddler =D
hahaha.. i think so too..
i've been searching for the raw of second ep for ages, i haven't seen one so far which is strange... heck, the third ep aired already even...
i know many of us cant wait for the ep2 to come out.. hehe.. i'm also one of them.. lets just wait.. patience is virtue.. :D
The first episode was so amazing; I'm itching for MOAR! Emma! <3 <3
patience, patience (while banging the head on the wall)

did anyone notice that emma's apron changes between the new one she gets from the new house and the old one she wore in London. In the manga it shows one of the head maids giving her a new apron but in the anime they didn't show that sence. and it changes back and forth.
Example: When emma easedrops on Nanette giving the fan to that boy its the old apron, and then after that its the one with the fringe?
just wondering if anyone noticed it too
Beatrice, oh okay.. you can have him too. But just don't then hog him yourself ;)
daydreams Though he looked better in manga.. but I'm not saying he's looking bad in anime :P
No lah...If you read the Manga, you will realise that there are different kinds of aprons that go with the uniform for different work.
For work like serving or working in the bedrooms, they wear the frilly apron. For work like cleaning and moving things, they wear the plain one. For changing coal in the various rooms, they wear an apron that extends from the waist down (no top part). This should hold true for the anime as well.
There's one significant scene in the manga illustrates the change of aprons. In the chapter that William brings Emma back from America in Book 7, all the maids rush out of the working room in their plain aprons to meet the long gone Emma. Only Adele was calm enough to stay behind. There's a scene which shows her removing her plain apron, and taking a frilly apron from the hooks before leaving the workroom - understanding that someone will have to serve the 2 guests. In the following pages, one can see that all the maids are in plain aprons except for Adele - who is indeed serving the guests. The rest were chased away to prepare the guestroom.
is anyone else having problem with the tracker?
the tracker is giving me error: file not found message :(
....... WHAAT! I just blink for a mere second and the torrent is released!
I want it! I´ll go download it right away. Hans, wait for me. I´m coming!
And Zenaida... now that´s what I call top research about maids! Keep it up and you´ll beat Mori sensei. XD Thanks for the info. The truth... i didn´t notice! wow!
Beatrice, hey hey HEY! Don't have him all for yourself! ;) Hans will be there for all of us.. Grr.
Really big "Thanks!!" for this one, guys :)
Thanks for the compliment Beatrice1979, but it really isnt about research...it's the mastery of Mori sensei - which is why i like her works - it's so detailed. There's so much that can be observed.
When Emma was a maid of all work for Kelly Stonar/Stoner, it wasnt some luxurious household, so her uniform was simple - one kind of apron - a simple apron, and even her dress was simpler (compare the shoulders and neck cuff between that of the Stonar's household and Molders household - the Molders uniform has puffed sleeves (fashionable at that time) and the neck cuff was thicker and a closer fit).
The maids of different households also dress differently. The fanciest apron in the Molder household is very frilly. In the Jounse household, it is frilly - but not as frilly as the Molder's (no frilly front). In the Campbell household, the maids do not wear frilly aprons, but "V-neck" lacy ones.
And the best thing is that this is mostly consistent throughout the manga.
Inconsistencies are quite minor, e.g. nose rings on Hakim's maids - they disappear after the chapter of their appearance, or the length of the "tails" of the maids' caps - it was really long in the chapter when Emma rushed out at 1 am to "meet" William in book 6, but a lot less shorter in book 3. Most inconsistencies occur in the 1st few chapters of the 1st book - i guess that was when Mori sensei was just getting started and was still getting the setting settled.
Ooh, one more thing, check out the evolution of fashion by looking at the first few chapters of book 5. Dresses, hats and hairstyles were a lot more detailed and frilly when Mrs Trollope was younger, and the skirts had this huge bump at the back - a bit like a horse's. Then when William was a young child, the bump on the skirts gets flatter, but still somewhat present. In the "present", the bump is gone, but the sleeves have swelled up (check Dorothea's clothes out). The anomaly is seen on Mrs Trollope - who obviously cannot be bothered about fashion esp at home - and so her sleeves most of time not puffed. I think that this aspect of fashion is more or less quite faithful to that of Victorian history. (Ooh, you can also check out chapter 1 and 2 of Emma Bangaihen - the fashion of Kelly's youth.)
Great work on episode 2, it's nice that this series is getting more than a speedsub release.
One thing though, i noticed that the timing is off throughout the entire episode. The subs appear at the right time but stay on screen past the dialogue. Episode 1 was timed right but i noticed the same problem in the intermission episode. Might be something for the timer to keep in mind though for future episodes, as it is a tad bit distracting.
Anyways, keep up the otherwise great work.
The subtitles are deliberately timed to hang on past the end of the dialog by .4 seconds. That's how we did it for season one, also, except for one episode where I forgot. This gives the subtitles a less rushed feel, especially for short lines of dialog. This is a little trick I learned from watching how Triad did things. It's a feature, not a bug.
thanks zenaida for the info on the aprons i thought i was the only one to notice. You rock :)
You're welcome Kimmay.
OMG...when i finally found Episode 2 online, i nearly cried. Thank you thank you everyone - Whispers for translating, whoever for encoding and finally the people who put it on youtube such that it is accessible to those who do not have bittorrent or whatever it's called. Oh man, thank you so much!!!!!!!!! sob sob sniff sniff kisses and hugs!!
Zenaida: I've been checking that in the series not sure in the manga maids have two different uniforms. One for cleaning and another more fancy for evenings(?) social events(?). Has anyone noticed it? (but I presume it's very practical and logical).
Whispers and IIchan group: MY SINCERE THANKS. ^_^ I've watched the episode 4 times now. Its not blurry and the quality is great! Neat as always. Congrats! Keep them comming!
awwwwww... Episode 2 was awesome already watched it 3 times... can't get enough of Emma. For me it was just by fluke that i found out about Emma. It was the first translated version in english and i'm a total nut like Kaoru about England. I coudln't believe a manga about victorian life as a manga i freaked out and have been hooked ever since. Then seeing the manga come alive and even a second season.. i love it its great...
again and again thank you, thank you for the second season :D
Hi Beatrice1979, i assume you were addressing me in your previous post? Yes, the Molders' maids in the anime has 2 uniforms from what can be seen...now. As for the nice apron, well, it's nice, but can you imagine the maids doing cleaning in them? I dont think they would last very long if they did - imagine dust and dirt getting into the folds of the frills...what a cleaning nightmare.
yes you are totally right. perhaps it's one of the things they fixed in the anime episodes.
