Hi everyone,

I've spent the last few months working on a movie version of Emma, and I've finally got a finished draft. Lordy, what a project! It's 142 minutes (think- Howard's End, Age of Innocence, or Remains of the Day in terms of length), and, of course, I've used your guys very well done, fansubbed versions for it. I'd very much like to share it with the Emma community, if people are interested, particularly as the second season is coming out in a bit.

Obviously, at that sort of length (equal to about 6 eps of video) there are some distinct differences between it and the show-- mostly, I've been guided by the desire to make the best movie-viewing experience possible, even if it meant moving some things around or removing some plot elements. Of course, I love Emma, so I've tried to stick to the real feeling and intent of the show and manga-- meaning, in the end, that it's the love affair between Will and Emma that is the central thrust of the movie, when decisions re: cuts had to be made. I've also tried to make the final product as professional as possible-- using Vegas for crossfades on the audio, making the cuts as seemless as possible, using uncompressed video files for the best quality I could get, and doing some post-processing to spruce up the image a bit. Basically-- I wanted to make a movie that felt, as close as possible, like it had been released in Japan for our viewing pleasure.

Right now, it's a 35 Gig uncompressed file. :} So obviously it needs some reformatting. Does anyone have any suggestions for what type of avi I should use? Xvid4, etc etc?? And how I might be best able to share it? I've thought of making a torrent, but haven't done so before (although I've downloaded my fair share). I would assume it's going to be around a 1.5-2 gig file, even when compressed, because of the length. I suppose I could use some sort of filesharing website.... ??

Any input would be appreciated.

I am not expert. But I am glad about your project. The least thing I can do is encourage you and help you seed it if you release a torrent.

For those who are interested, I'm going through the process of encoding this. I made a test version last week, and didn't think the video quality was as good as a wanted-- as such, I'm making another version now, but well, my computer is olllllllllld, so it's gonna take a few days. I'm hoping to have it available to download, or on a torrent somewhere by the end of the week.

I just want to thank Steve Berry for his hard work and never giving up on this ground breaking Anime! I will really enjoy this movie and cannot wait for the second season to come out! I've got a little over 50 people leeching from me right now, so somebody is going to be watching this thing. Who knows who they are??? As for whether it'll be a great movie when they see it or not.... well, I'll leave that up to them (or you). Of course, I think it's pretty nifty.

I must have had to watch this show about 5 times or more, to get all the video I wanted from it. And the current version out is #8, and I watched every single version after I finished it to see what I thought. And I've gotta say, this is why I love Emma-- 8 times in to this movie, 5 or 6 times in (at least) to the show, and I still find it funny when Kelly teases Will about his bed wetting, I'm still intrigued by Emma's "confession" to Kelly re: Will, I'm still annoyed by many of the choices Will and Emma make, the Crystal Palace still makes me smile, and the ending still is a gut wrencher. Every time. Personally, whatever my wife might say, I love it just as much as Pride and Prejudice.

still downloading... can't wait to watch it. my mom would love this! she somehow found my folder of emma anime and she's been asking every week when the 2nd season was coming out... thanks steven berry. :)

It's exactly what it says it is.... :)

I made an "Emma" movie, using footage from iichan's fansubs for the TV show. I cut things, and moved things, changed some characters a bit, and spliced scenes together,and "made" a few scenes with some sleight of hand editing, etc. But everything, in the end, is from iichan's fansubs, so all the footage is Emma. I made it so fans, like me, could watch it. That's it. :)

There are more seeds now (somewhere around 50), so dling should be faster.

My download just finished, so I'm just starting to watch it. (Thanks by the way Steve, for the e-mail saying you had the torrent up! : D) So far, it seems quite good, and perhaps we can make an Academy Award for the cat, who does a terrific job of stealing William's hat? XD
