There's a line in Maid in Akihabara episode 2 that none of us can figure out, including mogura, the native Japanese on the team. Himeko is watching Saki and Miyabi fighting, complete with angry eye sparks, and she says something like, Whoa! This is just like "PIISU to ANATEKA!"

Listen to the line at http://www.ekvin.com/whatsthis.wav (thanks to cosmo_gunny for hosting).

They're probably two names, so it's likely a reference that none of us recognize. If you think you have a clue, let us know!

PIISU might be Peace. Beyond that, I'm lost. Maybe we could ask the folk in /nihongo?

mogura asked the 2channeru people and got nothing, which is surprising because they're normally a chatty bunch.

curiouser and curiouser, eh?

Maybe it's a reference to video game characters, or anime characters? That is what I am guessing.

The closest actual reference I was able to find was a reference to Fiddler on the Roof because Anateka is a misspelling of one of the songs O_o Which would make NO SENSE. As well, it's a random statue on Easter Island. Which once again, NO SENSE.

I'm pretty such Piisu means peace though. Sorry for not being much help T-T

If the reference is too dark for 2chan...

well, we can hope !

Ok, this is a complete shot in the dark but what if "anateka" is "Undertaker" and she's talking about wrestlers?

Now that you mention it, it does sound a bit like "Undertaker".

9 Name: whispers : 2006-03-18 18:13 ID:QEmKxiYM [Del]

And I was thinking it might be a wrestling reference myself.

Well, a little googling reveals that the wrestler "The Undertaker" regularly used "Rest In Peace" as a tagline. Still doesn't make real sense, though.

Then again, does this whole show really make any sense?

That doesn't really seem to work in context, and there should be a "da" in there that I can't hear.

Mogura also suggested "prince and Anna", which led someone to suggest "Anna and the King of Siam", but that's pretty shaky too...

If that were the case, what would "teka" mean?

"teka" is a colloquial expressions used by teenagers, it means "something like that" or "sort of"(shorter word for "tte iu ka").
but now, i'm sure my guess about prince and anna was wrong, i don't think Himeko had seen Kind and I...
I've got some replies from 2 channeru(2-chan) anonyomous but most of them said, "No idea what she's saying".
and others said it sounded like "piisu to anateka" to them as well. and too bad, they also have totally no idea what that could mean.
Darn Himeko, speak more clearly! xD

I'm going to admit defeat and release episode 2 with a plausible but completely made-up line for the infamous line 22. That's the surest way to get in touch with someone who really knows the answer! :)

A "Pissed Off Undertaker" does like staring down at the competition a lot, right? That is before he chokeslam them...

I have it.

She's not saying "PIISU to ANATEKA" but it's close.

She's saying: "BIISUTO ANDAATEIKAA"

That is:

Bob Sapp, "The Beast" (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Sapp)

and

Mark William Calaway, "The Undertaker" (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Calaway)

The Beast has been active in pro wrestling in Japan for a while now, and The Undetaker has toured Japan as recently as 2005. Clearly, Himeko is much impressed by the fighting spirit of both.

I think that resolves this question.
