Emma casting call! (41)

1 Name: TcDohl : 2006-01-21 03:53 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

I think you knew this question was inevitable. Who should play the characters in Emma in live action? Fight!

Here's my list:
Emma - Anne Hathaway
I know that she's American, but I think her look just screams Emma. The hair, the eyes, and the shape of the face, among others.

Will Jones - Paul Bettany
I think he would be the right choice for Will because he has a certain youthful look to him that sort of fits the character. But he's played pretty reserved characters before, so I'd really like to see how this one plays out.

Kelly Stowner - Maggie Smith
I think this is a rather obvious choice. She has the look to her, and she can speak as if she has some kind of infinite wisdom, much like the character.

Blah, I can't think of any more at the present time. I may come back with more. Like that matters.

2 Name: fazco85 : 2006-01-21 13:45 ID:cStdWIFs [Del]

how about Rowan Atkinson for william? ZOMG LOL ROFL

3 Name: Meep : 2006-01-22 00:17 ID:Hy8Gvdzn [Del]

I liked Paul Bettany in Knight's Tale but I don't think he looks sophisticated enough to be William... just my two cents :P

4 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-24 21:43 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

Liam Neeson for Richard.

5 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-24 21:45 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

Richard Chamberlain as Viscount Campbell.

6 Name: TcDohl : 2006-01-25 04:23 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

Liam Neeson? I was thinking more Michael Caine for Richard and Liam Neeson for Viscount Campbell. But then again, just see if you can get those two heavyweight actors together.

7 Name: Keeper : 2006-01-25 13:32 ID:zfeKWauW [Del]

Oh come on, I think Liam Neeson is perfect for the role of Richard, but I also think that Michael Caine could do a very good Viscount...
(With his Holier than Thou acting...)
Then again Richard Chamberlain does have that certain look in his eyes (and brows :p) that match those of the Viscount...

Paul Bettany is probably out, can't think of any role that matches him (certainly not that of William).

As for Anne Hathaway, PLEASE!!! She's way too luscious to pull this off, I don't think she could capture that essence of modesty that Emma has...
(Don't get me wrong, being luscious is a good thing for a woman and an actress but it's not Emma. She's more of an innocent-looking beauty, the one that screams "maiden").

Maggie Smith however sounds just too perfect for words...

8 Name: Forever Blessed : 2006-01-25 17:28 ID:btlMbT7f [Del]

Maggie Smith? For what role? She's too thin for Lady Campbell, although she can handle the attitude just fine. I'm sorry, she'll always be Prof Minerva McGonagall to me (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001749/).

9 Name: TcDohl : 2006-01-25 20:17 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

If you saw the first post, you would see that my choice for Mrs. Stowner is Maggie Smith.

Anyway, I just thought that Aurelia Jones (Will's mother) should be played by an aged Helena Bonham Carter. I think she's got a perfect voice for the role. I don't think she'll mind doing yet another Victorian drama. :p

But you know, just wait till you see Anne Hathaway portray Jane Austen in her next movie, Becoming Jane. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416508/

10 Name: Emi_Hotaru : 2006-01-25 22:58 ID:fQ1QT0/t [Del]

Maggy Smith will be very perfect in the Kelly's role, I think *___*
But, I don't see Liam Neeson in the Richard or Viscount 's role... He seems too gentle, I think^^
Michael Kaine in Viscont's role is an excelent idea *__*

For Hakim 's role... Maybe Keanu Reeves tan as he was in Little Buddha *__*

For Emma ... I don't really know...
Ewwan Mc Gregor for William? *__*

11 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-26 00:39 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

"Ewwan Mc Gregor for William? *__*"

Gawd, noooo.

12 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-26 00:43 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

And Richard Chamberlain looks so much like Viscount Campbell, I've wondered if Mori-sama was a fan of Shogun and used him for the model.

Keanu Reeves with a tan as Hakim? I like that. The blase stare is the one thing he can actually do.

13 Name: Livre : 2006-01-26 12:56 ID:dNJwBdIi [Del]

I agree with Maggie Smith as Kelly =D. And Keanu as Hakim could go either way. He does have the power of the stare, but I still haven't quite forgiven him for the second and third Matrix movies.

As for Emma, I like TcDohl's idea of Anne Hathaway. She has the sort of quiet sweetness we all know and love Emma for.

I keep seeing Tom Felton as Arthur O_o Sort of a smug rich brat all 'Oh look, I go to Eton!'. I think I'm just wierd :X .

14 Name: Forever Blessed : 2006-01-26 17:43 ID:btlMbT7f [Del]

You're right. Maggie Smith would be perfect as Kelly Stowner.

Other roles...
How about the two girls that did the Patil twins for two of Hakim's girls? Who could play as Eleanor? What about the Molders?

15 Name: Forever Blessed : 2006-01-26 18:46 ID:btlMbT7f [Del]

Oh wait! What about Catherine Zeta-Jones for Dorothea?

16 Name: Emi_Hotaru : 2006-01-26 19:46 ID:nXu3GRNC [Del]

Catherine Zeta-Jones for Dorothea will be great *___*

And Tom Felton is a very good idea for Arthur^^

17 Name: Momiji. : 2006-01-26 23:35 ID:aqY15M1f [Del]

Hugh Jackman as Hans :p .

:) ~~~~ ...

18 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-27 01:37 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

Not tall enough. But Jackman would certainly have no problem carrying off the menacing look.

I think for William, it would take a fresh new face to do him. And if anyone wants to suggesting Orlando Bloom for him should ... go play in traffic for a year or so.

I think Jeff Daniels (like he looked in Gettysburg) would be perfect for Wilhelm. Might need to slim down just a bit.

And yes Zeta-Jones was exactly who I was thinking for Dorothea.

Now who would we get for Tasha? Hmmmm ....

19 Name: Keeper : 2006-01-28 18:29 ID:n+7KhdPa [Del]

Ok, I'll refrain from making a decision on Anne Hathaway for now although I must say I still find her too luscious. (It could be that if you Google her name the first picture it will return is one where she wears a completely see-through top or the fact that her lips are too thick and red...)

Liam Neeson could never play the Viscount but Richard isn't that intimidating, I think he could do just fine.

Keanu Reeves for Hakim... now here's an interesting idea, one that could, as one said before, go either way, again, I'll refrain from giving my opinion on the matter right now

Catherine Zeta-Jones for Dorothea... just screams perfect...

Hugh Jackman as Hans... hmmm, if they could do with the height issue then yes, he could be really good (see Kate & Leopold)

Tom Felton as Arthur, pas mal, pas mal... (o_-)

Evan Mc Gregor for William... hmmm, not bad but doesn't quite fit... nah...

20 Name: TcDohl : 2006-01-28 22:10 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

Well, for Hakim, there's always Jimi Mistry.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0592993/

21 Name: Emma Fan : 2006-01-28 22:12 ID:TqNXWMn+ [Del]

What makes casting so hard in this movie is that the majority of the major characters have blonde hair! It's hard to name blonde male actors on this script. We favor the darker-hairred men :)

22 Name: Anonymous : 2006-01-29 07:00 ID:ojVEFD0i [Del]

Well, there are such things as blonde wigs and hair dye :P

For the Viscount I could definitely see Jason Isaacs playing him. Also, he just makes a good villan.
What do you think of Reese Witherspoon as Eleanor? I think she'd make a pretty good fit. And maybe Tilda Swinton as her big sister Monica.
I think Kenneth Branagh as Wilhelm would be nice. Plus the man looks better with some facial hair on him, like in Hamlet or Much Ado About Nothing.

23 Name: TcDohl : 2006-01-29 16:18 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

Reese Witherspoon and Tilda Swinton are too old for their parts. Eleanor is supposed to be 16-18, and Monica's supposed to be around 25-27.

24 Name: Capt. Kierk : 2006-01-29 23:52 ID:pOG35n1i [Del]

Branagh as Wilhelm? Let's see now, Wilhelm is a sleek, handsome, slim, tall, sophisticated well-mannered German. Branagh has all but five or six of those qualities (although I liked his Henry V.) But seriously, if he can handle the accent and speak some German it has to be Daniels.

Here's Wilhelm in all his glory:

Here is a picture of Joshua Chamberlain, the actual man he played in Gettysburg:

And here's the closest to that pose I can find of Daniels in Gettysburg:

25 Name: Emma Fan : 2006-01-30 00:44 ID:TqNXWMn+ [Del]

His name is William, not Wilhelm. For goodness sake, this is England. Not Germany.

Get someone like Kate Bosworth or to play Eleanor.

Rachel McAdams could play Monica.

Naomi Watts or Kim Cattrall for William's mother, Aurelia.

26 Name: yukimaru : 2006-01-30 03:13 ID:xA/5KeA5 [Del]

emma fan... i think the wilhelm they are talking about is the wilhelm molders.. i think (since you guys are talking about facial hair...) and it makes sense since the molders are from deutscheland.
how about the newest batman for william jones? (i just can't remember his name right now).. he's better than orlando bloom.. hahaha.

27 Name: Emi_Hotaru : 2006-01-30 13:09 ID:kSQRBX+V [Del]

yukimaru: Christian Bale? Hummm, I don't know, he's not blond, I never imagine him blond but... It's possible^^ But he have to learn to smile lol
And what about Heath Ledger for William? (you can see him in "A Knight's Tale" or "Grimm Brothers"

28 Name: Anelim : 2006-01-31 21:39 ID:4XAWNc0x [Del]

what do you think about Jonny Lee Miller for William? he looked nice in old fashined clothes in Mansfield Park and I think he also has good face expression

here are some pictures:

**tangent**For some reason I see Claire Danes flitting through the world of Emma, but I have no idea as who O_o She just has some cuteness about her. It's just my imagination being silly.

I agree with Rachel McAdams playing Monica, just because she can do that split from nice to I'll kill you with butter attitude in two seconds flat.

30 Name: Emma Fan : 2006-02-02 08:44 ID:TqNXWMn+ [Del]

William will be played by.....Hayden Christensen.

He's young enough (24) and he's 6'2" tall. Woo-hoo!

31 Name: Anonymous : 2006-02-02 11:53 ID:14RNt3l8 [Del]

ZOMG DARTH VADER IS WILLIAM JOUNES

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

32 Name: Forever Blessed : 2006-02-02 19:00 ID:btlMbT7f [Del]

That sounds so like... a disturbance in the Force.
So, would that make Richard (or the Viscount) the Emperor?

The imagery is just so wrong.

33 Name: Emma Fan : 2006-02-02 19:14 ID:TqNXWMn+ [Del]

What the hell? Hayden is CUTE! He looks like he can pull off a William Jones. Forget the Star Wars imagery. Good god. He even has green eyes!

Eee no. He doesn't look innocent enough.

35 Name: TcDohl : 2006-02-06 18:18 ID:kTxeA3bs [Del]

Yeah, and his face is waaay too chiseled to be English.

Anyway, you know, I think Mischa Barton (who's English) should be in there somewhere, for some reason. Oooh, have her as Grace Jones. That'd be cool.

36 Name: TcDohl : 2006-02-06 18:29 ID:kTxeA3bs [Del]

Ooooh, what about a young actor, Carly Schroeder for Eleanor? Here, check it out.

37 Name: Anelim : 2006-02-06 19:09 ID:QIQbhZe9 [Del]

yes, she looks great! and has perfect age :P

38 Name: Livre : 2006-02-08 00:24 ID:exRsHnNQ [Del]

She's so cute! o And may I say perfect for Eleannor?

39 Name: TcDohl : 2006-02-12 23:33 ID:loJxGxgA [Del]

Actually, my pick for Will's mom is an aged-up Emily Watson.

winona ryder, the way appears in movie "dracula", would make an excellent cast as emma when she's all dressed up to attended party with williams mother.

41 Name: beatrice1979 : 2006-10-06 06:09 ID:l8XyHUdE [Del]

Yeah, i think you saw her in "Little women" too. She does looks so Emma in there.
