So, a lot of us have been following Kamichu, which has has been looking very promising. However, it's looking more and more like nobody's making a serious attempt to fansub it. ADTRW^H^H^H^H^H MEYRIN did a few episodes, but they've been saying they'll drop it from the start, and they also didn't seem to think too highly of their own work on it. Nobody else has gotten past episode one.
This is a damn shame, since it's such an appealing series. We've floated the idea now and again that maybe we should pick it up, but nothing's definite been decided. So I thought I'd float the idea to the larger community: Would anyone be interested in seeing us subbing it? I can't guarantee that we'd manage to keep it up better than the others, but we could take a stab at it.
So, good idea? Anybody wanting to help out with translation (we're always short-staffed when it comes to that, like everyone else)? Thoughts?
Yeah, you can count me in for encoding again :D
This Anonymous says YES! I would love to see you guys work on a fansub. w If you did, would you guys continue after ep 3 or start over?
Another Anonymous vote for YES!
This is a vote for YES! Unfortunately my near to nonexistent Japanese wouldn't be of any help.
Umm.. since I was the one who suggested this in the first place, it behooves me to say: "Yes. Yup. Uh-huh. Roger."
I'm in.
Good question. On the one hand, a lot of people are probably waiting for ep 4. On the other hand, if MEYRIN is still going to continue, it would a bit rude to them. Also, a lot of people are unahppy with MKVs, so for new viewers it would be better to start from 1.
So we'd be looking at HardSub AVI?
I say hunt down the HDTV raws, that way I can crunch down the image size, and get higher quality :D
People are unhappy with MKV? ponder I can't quite figure that out. I'm unhappy with OGM :) I'd prefer if everyone did MKV so that it would be easier to fix subtitle issues. Not only that, but you can embed ssa subtitles in an MKV instead of just plain old srt subs.
If you do HardSub AVI, I guess that'd be ok, but I'd prefer the soft subs and I really think it'd be helpful to you guys. If you don't want to do the MKV route, think about releasing the raw (with certain things like signs and text hardsubbed) + ssa (for the main speech). Most video players these days support soft subs if the name of the sub file and video are the same...
Anyway, I've never heard of nor seen this anime but I'd like to see you guys pick up something new. Emma was great (and still is) but I think your talents would be wasted if you stopped subbing :)
People are unhappy with MKV because it won't play on their machines even after setting them up to play fansubs - that is, AVI with mp3 sound and xvid. Nobody likes to be forced to install more crap on their machines, and that's quite a reasonable attitude, really. MKV only has advantages for power users and people obsessed with video quality - for the regular user, it's just like AVI except it's harder to get it working.
All true. What's more, my machine is set up to play MKVs, yet I've been having a lot of trouble with the sound and video "stuttering" on MEYRIN's subs.
What it boils down to is that making a fansub that only 5% of the audience can watch, because the rest don't have the required kit, is sort of... well... I don't know any politer way to put this... stupid.
Sound and video stuttering is probably due to the HDTV quality which is VERY HIGH quality and some slower machines have trouble with that.
>>12
You're probably right, but that just goes to prove my point.
I'd love it to see Kamichu subbed by you. I vote yes! Whether it's MKV or AVI I'll be grateful.
Video quality has nothing to do with MKV, power users have nothing to do with MKV. It's just a media container just like OGM or AVI, it's just more flexible.
Now, one issue I see here, you automatically think that the audio is mp3 and video is xvid. I've run into quite a few MKV that have real media, mpeg, and divx video and ogg, mp3, and other audio. The problem is, if you're having issues with MKV, you don't have the proper drivers installed.
Google k-lite mega codec pack:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm
This will get you EVERYTHING you need to watch MKVs with little to no fuss. Real Media and Quicktime without installing the proprietary players, and other things.
MKV actually has lower overhead than AVI and OGM and to top it off, it's very flexible.
Don't get me wrong, I'll go for Hardsubbed stuff, I just prefer MKV because of how flexible it is. It also runs rather well on my wife's 500mhz machine, our 1ghz p3 machine, my celeron laptop, and my main box without problems. All I did was install the K-Lite pack and that was it.
Explorer constantly crashes with OGM so as soon as I run into that crap, I mux it to MKV ;) heh
I'm looking forward to this series and I certainly hope you guys sub it!
Pleeeeaaase, no zealot discussion about how to properly view MKVs. Skim through the Kamichu thread @ Raspberry Heaven to get an idea that it's not that easy: http://raspberryheaven.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1602
If you just want to preach, however, it would probably better if you went here: http://4-ch.net/tech/
The point you missed is this: We don't want to tell people what they have to do to play our files. If we have to do that, we've already lost the vast majority of our audience, who do not want to install files, or read forums, or search on Google to watch their anime.
We adapt to the viewers, not the other way around. This is the first rule of being user friendly.
>>15
I'm already running the K-lite mega codec pack, and you're completely missing the point.
As WAHa.06x36 explained, it's a question of optimal accessibility. If you place the bar artificially high, you'll just be annoying your potential audience.
Haha. K-lite. Haha*.
>ADTRW^H^H^H^H^H MEYRIN did a few episodes, but they've been saying they'll drop it from the start, and they also didn't seem to think too highly of their own work on it.
I didn't put out the first episode as officially Studio ADTRW because I was embarassed at the poor translation. After that it just sort of became impossible to change.
At the moment, it looks like episode 4 would be almost impossible to translate well with only the resources we already have (it has a lot of complex military language, although 5 and 6 are apparently very simple again). I had a sort of discussion with WAHa about combining efforts, but he went to sleep and it didn't restart afterwards.
As another note, the guy on Share who's been encoding our HDTV raws hasn't posted 5 and 6 yet, so he might have vanished. And if you don't feel like having ADVANCED HIGH DEFINITION TECHNOLOGY, you might as well wait until the 24th and have an R2 DVD source.
Still trying to get a hold of some more people to work out the details of how this would work. Hey, FON, get on IRC!
Also, I got episode 5 in HDTV off Winny. Haven't looked for 6 yet.
I'm all for it. I've got nothing against mkv, and one can say that the encoding is...marvelleous ;D But as some has said, MEYRIN isn't tiptop with the t/l. Feels more they are trying to make someone else interested in doing it.
I miss the topic a while earlier, sorry for the clone.
I can't read the x264 codec encodes. Meyrin Encode Policy pisse me off, because i can't read any of their files. I don't know what they want to do in the fansub community, but many users seems to have issues with the Meyrin/ADTRW releases. It's sad... I'm waiting for some other fansubs for the time being. It's really frustrating.
Well, here's the story so far: We (that is, mogura) helped MEYRIN out with getting ep 4 done:
http://raspberryheaven.net/~adtrw/torrents/Kamichu!-04_HDTV_720p_%5BMEYRIN-iitran%5D.mkv.torrent
We're meaning to go back over the earlier episodes and do some corrections, and make more accessible encodes of those... Stay tuned for more information on that.
how dare they adapt and use new technologies !!!!
That not the problem, i'm for the progress and the use of new technologies. But they should release in .avi for those who can't read the HDTV ones... Otherwise, good job on that one, the translation is awesome (I used my linux to read it ^^,)
Install Linux, problem fixed.
Can anyone with a generic graphics card play this? Mine was really choppy. However, the moe shone through. Certain shows can break through technological barriers.
Oh...if you use CCCP, it helps to disable the Haali splitter. It was a lot better after that, although some of the subtitles didn't work anymore.
The MEYRIN files use the full HDTV resolution at 1280x720, which means you need a pretty beefy processor to play them. When we get around to doing our encodes, we'll scale them down to something that's easier to handle.
>>24, >>25, >>27
None of these posts are helping to solve any problems. They're basically just arrogant "If you can't see it, it's your own problem" noises. As I said in my earlier post, it makes no difference how good your fansub quality is, if a large percentage of the potential audience can't watch it.
So say something constructive and helpful, or naff off.
>>31
You fail to recognize >>27 as an ironic catchphrase.

I personally love the fact they are doing softsubs. It feels closer to the stack of VHS fansubs in my closet.
Fuck you karaoke whores.
I don't like the mvk though. What I wish they would do is make a torrent for the HDTV and a torrent for a lower sized encode. Then just release the .ssa file so we can use vobsub
Going to release a version 2? Just need to download the new ssa \o
I'm personally agreeing with the idea of hardsub AVI for all the good reasons above. And for an answer where it's due, sure, I like linux, and it's my primary OS, but it has many weaknesses, one of which I'll generally call "interface". Playing and managing files in linux generally gives me the shits.
Linux can play any video format, no problem. Right after I compile my goddamned player. And that's after I go and download all the src for the core, and then all the codecs I want...
Other stuff to take into account: I know one or two people who use their DVD player to watch anime. While things are improving, support for softsubs in dedicated players is pretty hit and miss. Hardsubbed AVI is fine, thank you.
Unless you're going to offer me something nice, like multiple subtitle streams, or perhaps AC3 audio, just use AVI. (and don't hack AVI to insert an AC3 stream. Please...)
That said, I do like the odd softsub as well. If I can get HD raws and some subs, that's cool. Hell, if I can get any raw and some subs that means they didn't spend more time timing the gratuitous karaoke than the rest of the episode, that's even cooler.
I like karaoke, a lot of people do. The karaoke I want is just the romaji. Kanji is a wank. Translation, while nice, is irrelevant. When was the last time the words to a song made any sense? And why do people insist on making the karaoke dance? I'm dead serious when I say karaoke has gone downhill. There are far too many subs where the lyrics are hard to read. What's the fucking point!?
</tirade>
>>32
I don't care. Really, I don't.
>I like karaoke, a lot of people do. The karaoke I want is just the romaji. Kanji is a wank. Translation, while nice, is irrelevant. When was the last time the words to a song made any sense? Well said! Too much attention is paid to the bells-and-whistles, and not enough to the basic message.
Releasing .ssa files separately does have its advantages, as you say, but the problem is that this is also far too tricky to get to play correctly for most people. AVI hardsubs are still the most accessible way to release fansubs.
pisse off some otakues
You misspelled "offe". Now behave, all of you!
I cant believe this. Finally someone subs a show in HDTV without a reencode and softsubs (no noise, no reencode, no quality loss, adjustable, etc.) and most of you guys are complaining.
And dont give me this "omg its mkv" crap. Just use MPC or VLC or take your freaking 2 Minutes to install the Matroska Pack or CCCP.
The anime itself rules and its rather sad that no "real group" is subbing it. Nonetheless we get a version which other groups would never release (did I already mention HDTV, Raw quality and softsubs?) and all you do is complain.
At 4chan somebody said he wouldnt even care if it were just .rm quality like in the old days. You guys are so damn ungrateful. I didnt read a single "thank you for your subs/effort" in this thread. Im thankful that they are still releasing it and hopefully will not drop it because some ****** think they have the right to complain.
Hi, i've just installed the K-Lite codec pack and played the HDTV version of Kamichu no problems like before, but now i find the subs aren't there when i play even though it says it's turned on, can anyone help? Thanks!
age because neither iitran nor [meyrin] know what's going on and the latter wanted a post
All right... I've now beaten my computer repeatedly with a stick, while mumbling arcane spells and uninstalling/reinstalling various components - I've even fiddled with the Defiler Pack mentioned in a previous post in this thread (although that alone didn't work)...
...and I am happy to report that somehow (though I'm fecked if I know which part of it did the trick) I am now able to play these files without problems.
However, this does not alter my position that the format is unusable for a general release, because a disproportionate number of users will be unable to view it. It must be considered a supplementary format, for connoisseurs.
So get on IRC so we can get to work on making our own encodes already!
Proper communication is serious business.
I'm-a itchin for some encodin.
I think Kamichu! is the best series of this season so I hope someone will keep translating it. My Japanese isn't up to that, but I would be happy to do editing/polishing up or timing - provided I can get a raw or audio track I can actually play properly!
I vote for soft subs, they are much more flexible, e.g. if they're too small for your display you can pick a bigger font.
You can also turn them off for a clean display (nice during OP/ED to get rid of masses of unnecessary text and lyrics that most fansubs suffer from these days!)
I think the main trouble with the raw files that are coming out is not the MKV format, which here contains standard XVID (thank goodness!!), but that it is variable frame rate. Although ffdshow can play it ok, VirtualDubMod can't decompress it properly for editing: the ED comes out badly corrupt due (I think) to only 24 of the 30 frames per sec ED being decompressed. I wonder if the lack of fansubbers might be something to do with difficulties with the raw.
Some tips:
2. Stuttering HDTV video.
a) Forget 3D benchmarks, what you need a graphics card that can handle 2D textures / mpeg acceleration of 1280x720. If not, the video overlay won't be used and your cpu will have to do it all. With a good enough 2D video card even a 1GHz cpu should cope.
b) Use the official ffdshow-20041012 codec and NOT the unofficial 2005 H264 build found in the CCCP & K_Lite codec packs, as according to Milan Cutka it has all cpu optimisations turned off (due to the wrong compiler being used) and thus plays like a dog unless you have a very fast cpu. This alone probably accounts for much of the grief of stuttering hi res video playback.
worked for me with just defilerpak. unfortunately my computer can't play HDTV without dropping frames
you guy's are going to continue subbing kamichu? great series, really
Advance warning: episode 8 featuring the Battleship Yamato (although not in space) is another "our writers are crazy political nutcases" episode like 4, so it might be hard to translate again.
What, no announcement about episode 5?
The RH thread seems to be more popular for this....
Okay, let me get this straight here.
Working on this project, we seem to have:
WAHa.06x36 - Raws/Typeset?
FON - Translation
mogura - Translation
Myself - Encoder/Typeset
It would seem that we need to find a timer and a typesetter, or WAHa and myself are going to have to take a crash course in SSA, something I believe neither of us are looking forward to. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.
Re: episode 8 and the Yamato... Onishima, the Japanese town Kamichu! is set in has a 1:1 scale replica of the upper decks of the Yamato which was built as a set for a new movie about the ship being released soon in Japan. It's now a tourist attraction.
A quick query -- why is the Kamichu! ep 5 torrent labelled as being "glorious fake HDTV"? Is it not actually 720p, but instead some kind of upscaling?
What's the deal there? Just curious. :)
Dafydd @ ATMOS Software
>>55
Exactly what I wondered. This would decide if I even should bother downloading it since I already have the regular fansub...
The 720p raws have all been upscaled by the raw capturer, but they're still the best ones that can be found until the DVDs come out.
pipeline, is irc.ambrosia.net worth being on these days?
There's some problems with the kamichu 5v2 subs - timing errors that actually break the subs entirely in BSplayer.
Mostly works in media player classic, though "what happens to yurie" stays on-screen for several minutes at least.
They should be simple errors to fix (it looks like they are just overlapping timecodes), but I can't seem to get virtualdubmod to work with the SRT I exported and then fixed. <grr>
SRTs are just plain text files; if you know the approximate time the error occurs, it should be easy enough to fix it with a normal text editor.
I'm probably going to quit throwing out rough scripts for this since I have to get into college until december, but I'm the phantom staff member of [MEYRIN] so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.
Good luck on the project!
>>56
You don't need to get it, this didn't really merit a v2 but there were like two or three jokes fixed.
Looks like we have a timer and a typesetter. Everyone welcome wild and Kayle to the team :D
Welcome, Wild and ....wow, Kayle!
So happy to have you here :)

The town name seems to be wrong, after some googling, I found the town: Onomichi (尾道)
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%E5%B0%BE%E9%81%93&ll=34.404962,133.210044&spn=0.028626,0.042808&hl=en

http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/national/news/20050902p2a00m0na034000c.html
Too bad it's super-low-res in Google Earth. Oh well.
Re: Onomichi. Sorry about the typo... I found all sorts of interesting stuff about the town via Google -- there's a short film that shows shoolgirls wearing seifuku uniforms (very similar to the ones Yurie, Matsuri and Mitsue wear) as they ride their bikes off the ferry (but they're not wearing safety helmets, tsk tsk).
Well, don't just say things like that, link the video.
http://homepage3.nifty.com/muten/2005/kamichu/
...isn't this cute?! XD
VacBob, yep, the irc channels are still go to go. :)
Dafydd @ ATMOS Software
Here's some nice website!
this page has a lot of pictures taken in Onomichi, you can see some scenes used for OP cut, Yurie's school, ferry she uses to go to school, matsuri's shurine, and lot more, covering up to episode 4.
How many of them do you recognize? :)
Comments are written in japanese but the pictures are worth seeing!
All credits goes to Hitachi Shinjyo-sama, an admin of this site. :)

http://homepage1.nifty.com/h-shinjyo/kamichuwindtanbou2.htm
hope you enjoy!
For all you seifuku fans out there, here's a couple of those short films I mentioned in message 67 above. I can't find the website I got them from again though so I've hosted them temporarily myself.
Quick question regarding the raws themselves. Usually the DVD is preferred over broadcast raws due to greater quality. I've not been watching Kamichu myself, but from what I understand, it's being subbed at HDTV res. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this make the braodcast raws actually better than what DVD can offer? If this is indeed the case, the only advantage I can see in DVD raws is the lack of ads and general "cleanliness" during subbing.
Supposedly the HDTV raws are upsampled. They are also re-compressed, which the DVD raws wouldn't be. As we wouldn't release files at HDTV res anyway, the DVD is a much better choice.
Work has begun.
(crap, now I sound like whispers)
That's nothing bad - unless she's going to sue you for trademark infringement.
I guess it's okay as long as it's still in the family. :)
Is iitran continuing on from Meyrin (i.e episode 6) or starting over?
Starting fresh from the first episode from the DVDs that are being released.
Any year now would be nice.
>>81
You're more than welcome to translate, time, typeset, edit and encode it yourself, jerk.
I translated the signs for ep.6 a while ago if anyone wants them, I'll leave the script up until iitran reach that ep. anyhow. (Arc Ressiv's timing might need tweaking for the DVD but it should be quicker than doing it from scratch.) (Link is on Meyrin/Raspberry Heaven forum, around 8th Sept.)
It will be out soonish. These things take time, especially when you have not one, but two new team members.
"whispers has finally joined to kamichu project, yay" age. :)
Troop, fall in!
FON is still nowhere in sight.
Okay, so now I'm confused.
I sent material for the revised ed. of ep. 1, including Guide, and I heard... nothing.
Don't mind me, I'm just twiddling my thumbs over here in the corner.
>>90
By guide, do you mean the extra that came with the first DVD, by any chance?
looks like a group by the name of C1anime has just released kamichu! episode 2... hmmm
Doesn't look like it's the DVD version.
No, by Guide, I mean that we're (strongly) considering doing something like the "whispers' guide to the world of Emma" that we did for the Emma subs.
For Kamichu!, we're working on some explanations of the little details of Japanese culture and religion that aren't readily understandable by Westerners. For ep. 1, I've written some material on omikuji.
http://shii.oppresstheweak.com/hr/res/147.html
yoshitoshi ABe tries to figure out just what "Kamichu" is short for, and apparently settles on "Kamiokande no Chuugakusei".
Also, disregard that, it's "Kamiokande no Chuukanshi-tan". orz
"Kamiokande's Meson-tan" or something along those lines.
Yeah!
Sub kamichu please :)
u did awesome work with emma and kamichu is a good serie (extremely funny and different enough)
and i would love to help u but i just started reading japanese :(
It's great to hear that you're willing to take on this project. The extras from the DVDs are hopefully worth the wait. Take your time getting things done. I waited this long for Mahou to finish Tsukuyomi, so I can wait for the DVD rips of Kamichu (^_^). Just my luck that I prefer shows like Mahou Shoujo Tai, Petopeto-san and Ichigo Mashimaro instead of the dozen versions of Tsubasa and Naruto. Kamichu has been very enjoyable so far.
How long is "this long"?
I can wait <--this long--> or <-------this long---------> but not <------------------------this long-------------------------->
lol, you're very honest :)
24 hours. The first ep should be out within that time (that's if my bullshit internet connection doesn't die)
Okay, maybe a little longer.
I'll just wear this cardboard box and sneak past the guards! Snake, you're a genius!
http://cerealandmilk.net/torrents/Kamichu!%20-%20DVD%2001%20%5Biitran-ADTRW%5D.avi.torrent
Oh yes! Kamichu in DVDRip goodness! Yay! Please keep up the good work guys! And yes, it's lame how other groups just burried their Kamichu projects. Anyway, I'll download it right away and post my impresions about the quality, so take this post as a congratulation in advance. n_n'
w00+, nice job on this! \o/ Finally an excellent translation in a format I can watch without worrying about system resources or desyncronization. Wasn't expecting the extra scenes, either. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks a lot for this release, guys. More Miko goodness in the extra scenes and finally somebody translates Yurie's last line in the swimming pool correctly. This makes my decision to buy the R2 Japanese DVDs even easier than it was before.
Any idea yet about the extra 4 episodes and how they will be spaced out on the DVDs -- 1, 3, 5 and 7 or 2, 4, 6 and 8? And who do we have to kill to get another series of Yurie and the shrine-maiden crew?
Good Job, guys! Very well done, keep it up! Ganbate, kudasai!
good joob guys! like it alot, expecially F.O.N's guide to Yurie's World. Guess that's the trademark of iilchan . Ganbatte!
Just wanted to say that there is a discussion thread for Kamichu @ 4-ch, a site that belongs to the same guy who also runs this place:
http://4-ch.net/anime/kareha.pl/1120838150
Probably better for actual content discussion than this thread.
...and this thread serves a purpose for those who wish to discuss iitran's release of Kamichu.
yay! loving it - nice one!
when will the next episode be available?
http://raspberryheaven.net/forums/download.php?id=665
Swedish translation, but could use some editing (he left the English version on the side, which also reveals a few typos in proper names, and I don't know if the vertical sign is translated)
That Swedish translation is crawling with typos. I'll look it over and make corrections.
Even if you guys release in hard-subbed AVI, please also release the .ssa files for those of us who can use them. I already have the DVD ISO files from Share, and I'd like to merge the subtitles into them so I can burn actual DVD copies of this show.
Don't mean to be pushy but, when can we expect Ep2. release from you guys? And if this sounds pushy to you, you gotta understand... THAT YOU SIMPLY MADE AN INCREDIBLE JOB WITH EP. 1! Really guys, very nice job on the encoding also, very sharp with cool color balance, I love it. So, how about Ep.2? Can you leak us some info about next release date from you? Pretty please? The waiting is killing me! n_n'
Uh, there's a number of things I COULD say, but I think I'll let discretion be the better part of valor, and all that, and say:

Emule uses md4 for links and sha1 for AICH hashsets, see http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/help.cgi?l=1&topic_id=589&rm=show_topic
The link in >>132 has been ruined by WakabaMark, so you should put the brackets back in.
WakabaMark ruined the filename but the link does still work since the hash and size is correct.
Hopefully the next Kareha version lets users disable WakabaMark for theis posts.
I think my server is trying to tell me something.
Its hard drive died, and took the second DVD for Kamichu with it.
No more Vader on the Kamichu project.

Yay!

Yay.... Ditto ^^;
Whoa! Ganbatte, iitran! We all apprechiate your hard work!!
Oh yes! We appreciate it! Origatou iitran!!! I'm all over this torrent right now. I just woke up half an hour ago and look what I find!!! This HAS to be a great day!!! Now, really, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the hard work guys. You're doing a really great job. I'm kinda picky when it comes to almost anything, including anime encodes and let me tell you by experience that there are groups out there that have months or even years encoding without reaching the quality you've reached. Personally I think that AVI is OK while you don't need special font encoding or multiple audio channels and if you use a good video codec (and use it well of course). So, while I still dun know which codec are you using since I've been using CCCP for month's now I'm pretty sure that whichever it is you already know how to handle it pretty well, since your filesizes are small and the quality very high. Well, Xvid is good (better than DivX in my opinion) but nothing surpases the quality of h264 at the moment, so maybe you can think of swtiching some day, just an opinion. So you can make video size bigger ;)
Anyway, thanks again for the hard job and please keep up the good work! n_n'
Thank you for DVD episode 2. It is very much appreciated.
Were there any new scenes in the DVD version compared to the TV release? I didn't notice them if there were, and I've watched the TV episode at least half a dozen times.
Do you mind posting the .ass subtitle file for episode 2?
Probably the most obvious added sequences were Yurie-sama's arrival in the realm of the gods, including the first part of her boat ride, and the conversation between/with the three kami of the video storage formats.
>>148
my goodness! o_O
Did you really watched it? Were you awake when you watched it? XD
yes, the scene FON-san pointed out is new.
And 1:30-2:56 are also new scenes!! >_<
how could you miss it!XD
Plus, 8:25-8:52 was not in TV version either. :)
Re: message 148: Pardon my stupidity... I downloaded the Iitran DVD version and then happily sat down and rewatched one of my older TV-version downloads instead. Oops. I've had a quick look and yes there is extra stuff in the Iitran version. Something to look forward to later (after I get my other computer working again). Thanks.
This episode has one of my favourite scenes in the entire series in it, where Yurie is at the temple and accidentally meets Kenj-kun doing calligraphy. She suddenly realises she's talking to him, panics and runs away to hide behind a pillar. That's so... CUTE!
yep2... cute.... nice (to see her blushes, too)
>>152
ah, glad you finally watched the dvd ver. :)
yeah, i understand. it happens to me, too.
every episode is going to have new scenes and dialogs.
and iitran version has 'FON's Guide' at the end so that you can recognize them.
hope you all will enjoy! ^_^
Mistranslation (I think) around 13:46 when the three Gods of video formats are drinking, one of them is referred to as VHD. I think that is actually VCD (which makes more sense).
thanks Nojay for your feedback.
Actually, Kurata(screenplay) and Masunari(director) officially says this, during the audio commentary on DVD (during 13:46-13:53), that they are the kami of VD, VHD and LD. :)
Also this is the okama's original design sketch. you can see 'VHD' written there (and also a god of CD which was delieted from the actual show).

(i only linked to jpg, as the html includes spoilers!)
Well, to be honest, i'm not quite familiar with those formats myself, maybe i'm mistaken what you meant...if so, please forgive me.
and i'll always be open for any comments/suggestions as to translations, and appreciate them. thank you! :)
If you're not familiar with it (I wasn't before this), you can read up on VHDs at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHD.
In addition, VHD is clearly listed as the next to last credit in the cast list during the end credits.
Prod to detail the wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamichu
thanks everybody for your efforts concerning this GREAT series. But... when will we have ep. 3 ? Meyrin stopped at ep. 5 and I just can't stand the wait... (well, I know, I'm asking too much, but still…)
To #160:
Well I think they are still working on it... but yeah, it's getting a bit long. The first 2 episodes released were great. The important thing is reasonable video quality and not-too big size. Good ol' xvid is good enough. :)
Sorry, blame me... working on "3"
The HDTV meyrin stuff sucks and is heavily cut, your versions are much better, so please do continue the DVD versions.
I agree: I prefer your version. But I am really looking forward to seeing ep. 6 and after!!! It is so different a series, cute and deep at the same time, just as Miyazaki's films!!!
i luv in seeing more of this episode, so when are their going to continue, i can help with the QC, message me if you need some help on it, or other thing that i might be able to help, message me on snipewarex@hotmail.com(also on MSN) or gmail.com

mogura, I took the liberty of hosting the files as well so people can get them if they want, without having to use rapidshare/yousendit. If there's any problems (I notice you password-protected the zip file on rapidshare), just let me know and I'll take it down.
ohhh, thanks Furi!
well, i didn't put the password, but when i got the file it was already protected. it's just that i didn't know how to unlock it.^^;
i have another radio mp3 in which Mako(yurie) says, "daisuki desu!"(i love you) TEN times.^^
if anyone wants it, i can upload it too.
oh, well. her voice is so cute.^^;
> if anyone wants it, i can upload it too.
Yes, please do.

"p.s. forgive my poor english" --by Aikawarazu-san, California. XD
I would love to see episode 6... and 7....and 8...and 9 please!!!
The work so far is great!
Oh, my! o_O
Mako(the girl played Yurie-sama's voice) is now playing the role of MAID!
Titled "Maid in Akihabara". yes, pun is surely intended.
http://bb.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/news/11905.html
the girl in center is Mako-chan. CUTE!
and you can watch the episodes for free! yay!
the story begins in a maid cafe in Akihabara where Saki(Mako) had no choice but to start working.
you can find some anime characters and fan items including Kamichu stationery in this show.
Episode 1 is now be online here http://www.netcinema.tv/
no english subtitles.^^;
...and sorry it's a bit offtopic.
The second picture in the impress.co.jp link above has a girl in a Yurie-sama outfit on the left in the background behind Mako-chan (a bit out of focus). I think this direct link will work:
http://bb.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/static/image/2005/11/24/maid02-s.jpg
Thank you for the information. I suspect some perv^W enthusiasts will get around to subtitling this show.
So, after a lot of tomfoolery and whatnot, Episode 3:
http://cerealandmilk.net/torrents/Kamichu!%20-%20DVD%2003%20[iitran].avi.torrent
Episode 3 "features" reduced typesetting on signs... depending on time, episode 4 may be the same way.
Also, one sign got lost: the popsicle sticks say something like: "sorry, try again" (you can see the popsicle sticks in episode 2).
Another detail: the vehicle that splashes into the water says "Nichibotsu(sunset) Bank". It is a cash transport vehicle, so when it disappears into the sea, the bank lost a lot of money. (detail from Mogura)
Hey guys, I think it's great that youre working on Kamichu and everything but I cannot understand the bad encoding quality of your subs. You even use DVD source raws. If the filesize is the problem, no one said fansubs have to be <175Mb. Make the file as big as it needs to be for a better quality. Even the fake HDTV raws looked way better.
Thanks a lot for continuing Kamichu! I've just discovered this series a week ago and I fell in love with this anime.
Thnx! thnx! thnx! thnx! thnx! thnx!
Thanks a bunch for continuing my favorite series that nobody else wants to sub! I'm looking forward to more!
Somebody give that man his money back.
182:
The encode is pretty true to the DVDs--I applied some, but not a lot of sharpening. Some people prefer more sharpening--a lot of Japanese encoders apply a LOT of sharpening and many fansubbers add even more (who can forget the epidemic of way-over-warpsharpened fansubs from about two years ago?) I like it a bit more subtle.
For the technically minded, an xvid q2 encode of this video comes out to be 27MB larger than this one--not much difference.
184: To my knowledge, neither C1 Anime nor Ichiban-fansubs/Destiny-fansubs have dropped this series. Kamichu! is one of the most oversubbed little known series from Q3 2005. grin.
Thank you, iitran!! Until there are English subbed DVDs released (or I learn Japanese ^^;;), you are my best hope for this wonderful series. Thank you, all, again!
Thanks for all the hard work on this series.
One minor nit: please spell "Deity" correctly.
I timed the first part about the letter from California.

lol
thanks for your help, Mr VacBob! :D
Big thx to all you guys posting and translation the radio shows. Nice work!!
And thx for ep3, 'o cause!
Keep up the great work.
same here. big thanks! :)
I just read this thread through in its entirety, and a lot of it -at the onset, anyway- was about container format, softsubs, filesize etc. The people banding together to do this series seemes against MKV/softsubs on the grounds that it is trickier for the lower denominator to get running and that the format is only used/promoted by quality buffs.
Ignoring the unintended implication that Iitran is not interested in quality, two early quotes from two of the team members are significant:
17 (WAHa.06x36) "We adapt to the viewers, not the other way around. This is the first rule of being user friendly."
18 (Freak of Nature) ..."you'll just be annoying your potential audience." [not using AVI/MP3]
Service-mindedness is an admirable sentiment, perhaps only second to quality orientation, and therefore I'd like to point out the following:
